I always forget how absolutely shattering “The Grifters” was. So brutal. A bit staged, but so cynical and crushing. I liked it. I’ll have to check out “The Hit.”
I liked Dirty Pretty Things better than The Grifters myself. Something about the former gave me a feeling of unease that hasn’t really gone away. It also dealt with issues that I find more compelling, for whatever reason.
I’ve not seen The Hit, but I’ll be sure to ASAP.
“Dirty Pretty Things” was gorgeous.
This is good news. I’ve always wondered what happened to this flick. Brit gangsters under the sun, great cast esp. Tim Roth and good score by Paco De Lucia. Can’t wait to get my hands on this one.
sounds good any idea when NetFlix will have it? Dirty Pretty Things is a real teeth clencher, I still feel uneasy when i check into a hotel in London…

Criterion is releasing Stephen Frears’ The Hit.
I knew it. I knew it. I knew it.
It was only a matter of time. Awesome film. His best. The Grifters is second to this, but another example of how he was, at one time, the go-to man for crime meditation. Hurt. Stamp. Roth. They all own. Broadbent has one hell of a cameo. But it is Peter Prince’s screenplay that rules this production. The special features are light, but the commentary alone would be worth it. This is exciting.
