The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus poll

How many people think that this would be a good candidate for a Criterion release? I do and I will tell you why. I would like to know if there was a crazy rewrite that went on in what seems to be a seamless movie despite the passing of Heath Ledger. I also would like to see any behind the scenes stuff that went on in making this film. I have noticed that Criterion is releasing a lot more new films. I was impressed with Gomorrah and Che. I would like to hear what everyone else thinks.

it screams for a good dvd package because of all the potential behind the scenes stuff
but the quality isnt there for criterion

Well, for me, I didn’t even know about the rewrites when I first saw it and, let me tell ya, it really felt like it went through a lot of rewrites so that was pretty obvious IMO. I really wanted to like the film, and I did to a certain extent, but it didn’t flow very well at all. Plus the opening was rather weak I thought.

As for whether it should be released on Critierion … I’m sure it will be. I’m not convinced that it should be, but that’s not knocking Gilliam’s obvious talent, he’s just so god damned inconsistent, it frustrates me to no end.

I would to Joe. I actually saw it twice in the theater. I might just be a Gilliam mark, but I think the film was amazing. Tom Waits as the devil. I can’t wait to find out everything that went into making it. Just one mans opinion. I hope they release it.

I would definitely buy it. It was in my top 3 of 2009 and I saw quite a few movies last year. It’s my second favorite Gilliam behind Brazil and I’m a big fan of Gilliam.

I’d buy it for sure.

Terry’s movies are mostly already on criterion. I wouldn’t be surprised if they released this movie for a criterion special edtion & blu-ray version along with the standard version like they did with Benjamin Button, ect…
