In the piece I posted to The Auteurs Notebook, I specifically mention Guney as a reference, if only because the story’s setup is actually almost identical to Guney’s film THE FATHER. I think that Ceylan is worlds apart from Guney as a filmmaker in terms of style, politics, and sensibilities, but there’s obviously some give and take here.
