Olivier, I think you’re right about #1, but I’m not sure. Otherwise you are right on all of yours. here are the (other) ones I am sure of:

2. The Big Lebowski
5. Apocalypse Now
6. Napoleon Dynamite
7. Sideways
10. The Usual Suspects

Anyone know what #3 is?

How would you guys like to upload your own images for your profiles?

Dorothy Malone

Yes!

I really dislike Tarantino, Napoleon Dynamite and Sideways and the style choices made me kind of sad…

thanks Dave McDougall !! problem solved :D

I always thought that #5 was Adam Baldwin from Full Metal Jacket. I don’t remember that shot in Apocalypse.

Matt Honovic

Is that Lance on the edge of a boat?

The Mad Monk

I thought #5 was Full Metal Jacket as well.

Number 6

I think No.3 is BARTON FINK as well. The blackened in glasses make it hard to tell, but looks like Goodman, when they are sitting on the bed.
No.5 is definitely FULL METAL JACKET. Animal Mother running through the bombed out city.
The one with all the faces is BEING JOHN MALKOVICH.
I hope they add more choices too.

Good thread. So, the list so far is:

The Kid

The Big Lebowski

Barton Fink

Pulp Fiction

North by Northwest

Donnie Darko

Kill Bill (Volume 1)

Full Metal Jacket

Napoleon Dynamite

Being John Malkovich

Reservoir Dogs

Sideways

Amores Perros

City of God

The Usual Suspects

^ The first one is definitely The Kid. Don’t know about the others.

Yes, that is Animal Mutha in Full Metal Jacket.

Uploading our own image would be great. I haven’t bothered picking from any of those. I kind of feel like we should maybe have more detailed profiles, possibly with bigger avatars. These style images aren’t doing much for me.

MrE2Me

I agree with David, in response to Efe’s old post – it would be great to be able to upload our own image.

Thanks for the confirmations about the pics, guys. I’ve seen Barton Fink several times, but I’m still not 100% convinced about that one. The intense contrast of the B & W makes it hard to tell.

Miranda Patton

You can tell that three is definitely Barton Fink if you look up screencaps of the movie. Still working on the second to last one.

Tom Wilson

That penultimate pic is “City of God,” as was mentioned above by Olivier.

I myself self was extremely disappointed with the choices presented. Almost half of those movies are decent but nothing spectacular in my opinion. I expected there to be a lot of great films there, instead it is mostly films the average quasi eccentric person with a limited amount of knowledge of cinema has listed for there favorite films on myspace. North By northwest and The Kid being the only two that wouldn’t fall into that category.

MrE2Me

Thanks for confirming, Miranda and Tom. I saw that City of God had been mentioned above, but so was Apocalypse Now, which isn’t on this new list, so I wasn’t sure. I also don’t remember that scene, but I only saw the film once.

I have to agree with Cutler on the choices. As much as I love Tarantino, did 3 of his 5 films really need to be on there? And Napoleon Dynamite? Don’t get me wrong, I really like that movie, but it just doesn’t fit in with the others. The rest, barring Usual Suspects and maybe Donnie Darko, seem “Auteuristic” enough.

Miranda Patton

That does seem excessive to have more than one film by one director, especially if it’s Tarantino. But I think the “style” images were a really cool idea, regardless!

Okay, I only just noticed that there are some new, colorized options to add to the list. I’ll post them below, if anyone can help me identify the films they’re from (the ones with question marks), that would be swell. And go easy on me, I’m doing this in a hurry and off the top of my head…

Wow, quick responses, thanks! The blurring effect, while pleasing to the eye, makes it hard to confirm some of them.

Ron B

25 is “Volver,” I’m 100% positive

Rodney Welch

!2. is Fassbinder

14. is “Chloe in the Afternoon”

Tom Wilson

Rodney’s dead right on 12. (I think it’s on the set of “Berlin Alexanderplatz.”)

MrE2Me

Ahhh, so they’re starting to just put pictures of directors in there, now. No wonder I was confused. He looks a lot like De Niro in that shot!
