Kermode is allready doing this.
Is there a thread? (Who’s Kermode?)
I nominate Tron Legacy for the visual effects. It’s a huge tragedy it got subbed for the Oscars. No other film had taken effects to the level it did. Inception don’t count. Me says.
no, even better. he hosts for real Kermode awards. I thought Mark Kermode was infamous dislikable critic
for most here.
OK, now I know who you’re talking about. But does he post here? I’m thinking of the mubians participate and coming up with a list of films—a sort of anti-Oscars list.
The Social Network is underrated.

another poll?
uuuuggggggghhhhhhhh
can’t we just organize some kind of MUBI orgy instead?
I call bottom.
R.U.S.: Are your “why doesn’t anyone like dried cherries?” and “can’t we have an orgy?” postings somehow related?
Actually rather than I poll, I’d prefer getting people who have seen a ton of 2010 films—especially non-American films—people like Blue, Dimitris and whoever else qualifies—and have them make a list. I think this would be great. Regulars here could see this films, compare them to other lists and we could discuss it later. Of course, that would put the pressure on D, B and whoever else formed the list, but it’ll be all in fun. Plus, I’d really be interested in seeing the films they choose—as I suspect most of the films would probably be at least decent (if not great).

Okay, I know you meant ‘awards’ but had to do that. # : ^)
@Two Plus Two
would you prefer snails or oysters?

I’d like to see The Illusionist get an award somewhere, if only because it came from an idea by Tati, also it looks quite charming.

I care less and less about the Academy Awards, but I still care enough that the list gets me a down a bit. I guess, I feel like I’m an alien or freak because I think most of the films are pretty mediocre; well, and it’s just depressing that there seems to be few really great films. But I suspect that there really are a lot more great films that came out this year, but I just don’t know about it. And I also suspect that several people on this site know about these great films.
This is where some kind of MUBI award for the best films of the year would be really helpful. I don’t really care about lists. The problem is what is the best way to identify and choose these films? Yes, I know I can check individual lists, but, frankly, I don’t trust one person’s list. Is there a way to find the consensus among mubians here about the best films this past year? If there is, let’s do it. This would be better than grumbling about the Academy Awards; plus, it would be great to see such a list and track down the films.
