Ratcatcher + 2
Deep Red – 1
Black Swan – 1
Wow I am really impressed with the top 20 longform list a lot more than all the changes during the voting process
Something I think would be interesting is to take a poll, but then do a regression analysis with a bunch of other sources like TSPDT, Films101, etc. Then, subtract out the results that are predictable by the results of other polls. That way we’ll have a list of films that are more popular on Mubi than they are anywhere else.
The thing about regular polls is that every voter is voting against every film s/he hasn’t seen, so popular films don’t have to do as well among people who have seen them than less popular films do. That’s why I favor nonparametic algorithms for polls.
Eureka (Aoyama) +2
The Suspended Vocation – 1
Blazing Saddles – 1
I can understand your love for Eureka Cecil…but twice -1 for Suspended Vocation, one of the greatest Ruiz masterpieces? :O Twice? So much hatred when Amelie is still up there?
It isn’t one of my favourite Ruiz’s, and I’m aware that hardly anyone else is going to vote against it (whilst far worse films, like Kill Bill, won’t need my help to be disposed of).
Plus I’m quite fond of Amelie, even if City of Lost Children is awful :P
Oh sure, I’m just a bit surprised when ummm…worse films exist there that should go down e.g. Black Swan anyone? :P
I just thought twice in a row was a bit too harsh since it’s not even in the high places (yet?)
“It’s probably futile to go against 2001”
Why not? I’m actually thinking of targeting it next time as an addition to its demise. And why so much against Tarkovsky when you have the obvious fanboy films there, Godfather 1 and 2? If anything, both of them should drop off first!!!
“worse films exist there that should go down e.g. Black Swan anyone”
Yeah, but everyone else is voting against them so I’d be wasting my votes voting against them ;)
^ Voting against a masterpiece though is still different when voting against Fight Club :P
I really hope to see Amelie down the ground of this thing, not that it’s bad or anything, just that it’s a pity to see 8 1/2 decreasing so quickly, in case it appears below Amelie, it might feel kind of…awkward, even strategy-wise :P
Well, Manoel is still up there (though not by much), if anyone really wants to support Mr. Ruiz. Also not a huge fan of Suspended Vocation, for what it’s worth.
The Exorcist +2
Salo -1
Sweet Movie -1
The fanboy thing is BS, Dim, the Godfather and Godfather Part II are great films, don’t try and diminish their quality by equating their fans with comic books junkies and Tarantinoites

how is voting daily different from round one/two and so on, someone? anyone?
it’s a round a day, I think, so, it’s all the same thing
makes sense now.. missed round one/yesterday’s voting then.
Seven Up! +2
The Doom Generation -1
The Dark Knight -1
»…don’t try and diminish their quality by equating their fans with comic books junkies and Tarantinoites»
Hey, what’s wrong with comic books?! : (
Halloween (Carpenter) +2
2001: A Space Odyssey -1
I am Curious: Yellow -1
WMK, there is nothing wrong with comic books, there is something wrong when people go overboard with idolization. One can be interested without falling into the realm of a mental disorder, fanboys too often have mental disorders and fail to disassociate their interests from real life.
