Reminder PLEASE USE COMMON USAGE TITLE. This list is now
1108 movies
long and I do not want duplicates. It takes me about three or four hours to update the list and during that time, another couple-three people publish another list—it takes me even longer if I have to translate the titles to find the most common usage.
What does common usage mean? Usually it means English translation. However, movies like La Strada and Les Vampires are almost always kept in their original form. Ucho/The Ear is a gray area—I have literally seen it mentioned half of the time one way, half of the time the other. But sometimes I doubt even the Japanese call Seven Samurai Shinenen no samurai.
Most people automatically tend to list common usage, but a few have wanted to use the original language title. I understand the desire but for ease of my carpal tunnel please refrain.
Thank you.
PART A: SUBMISSION CUT-OFF TIME UPDATE
Seriously guys, we have over a thousand titles. That means less than two percent of these movies will survive. Also, I have bitten off more than I can chew as this is a lot more work and a timesuck than I expected.
Since most of the regular users I know have posted their lists and many new users have joined the foray, I’m going to cut this early part short.
EVERYONE MUST HAVE THEIR LISTS SUBMITTED IN THE NEXT TWENTY-FOUR HOURS. I will cease to count submissions after 2pm Saturday Abu Dhabi time, which is 3am Los Angeles time— or roughly thereabouts. Just get them in as soon as possible and you won’t have to worry about being late. At any rate not as many lists are providing any new titles so it’s possible many of your favorites are already submitted.

So now, you know, the thing is to just not let your computer angrily lobotomize you in the coming days.
i’m wondering how you could really be so surprised at the amount of entries you’ve gotten. this is a movie site, and 20 movies per person is quite a huge number.

@Maximillian
IMDBen posted a picture of a distraught Asian man saying “IMPOSSIBRU!!!”
most likely moderated for racism, i just agreed with the “impossible”/frustrating aspect of this thread. (though it is fun!)
@PolarisDiB please don’t take that last post seriously, i do not want to withdraw my list for consideration, i want it there!
also, i’d have to say that going through everyone else’s lists makes me wanna make some switches with my own, i will stand steadfast by my original chosen 20.

More likely removed due to a false sense of political correctness. That picture is now a famous part of meme culture and therefore beyond any notion of racism. In spite of all that, this poll is just an exercise in banality.
Yeah, that picture wasn’t saying anything about Japanese people, it was making a reference to Japanese’s game shows.
i know what the picture is. i’m just saying that’s probably why its moderated. racism, false sense of political correctness. whatever you wanna call it.

Ah, OK Brentos. I guess someone would have to be pretty sensitive to find it racist, haha. But apparently the community guidelines beg to differ :/
I know it’s off subject, but I didn’t really find the picture that offensive at all. I mean, Japanese people pronounce English words in funny ways. I’m sure that when I say “arigato” with my flat midwestern accent, I sound like a fool to Japanese ears. They could probably make a good joke out of it, and good for them. You gotta take that kind of fun with a grain of salt. It was harmless.
i thought it was hilarious lol
some selective moderating going on here. i guess i was the only one that found mark vanselow’s playboy triplets in the best trilogies thread offensive. sigh
shhh, censor House of Leaves is policing us.
“i’m wondering how you could really be so surprised at the amount of entries you’ve gotten. this is a movie site, and 20 movies per person is quite a huge number.”
Because I’ve done this before and not gotten so many responses. Testament to the fact that Mubi is a much bigger and more engaged community than it seems sometimes.
