I read on another forum that the sale will last two weeks.
usually lasts one week.
The one from last November lasted a little over two weeks if I recall.
The two times they ran the sale when I was at B&N it lasted two weeks.
last time it lasted 2 weeks…
Awesome. Two weeks is great. That gives me plenty of time to get paid and then blow it all on Criterion releases.
By the way, does anyone on here like the band Grizzly Bear? All this talk about two weeks makes me want to pop Veckatimest into my CD player…
Oh, I can’t wait for this sale! Thanks for the great news KNDY.
My Barnes and Noble man confirmed July 13 as the start of the criterion 50% off sale. :D
Leeches: I also have heard the same thing recently that after the B2G1 ends on July 12th, the Criterion sale will take place on July 13th and not the 20th.
It’s coming soon!!!
does anyone know if there is a site where you can git Criterion blu rays cheaper than on
Amazon?
they use to sell at 27.99 per disc but now prices are going sky high.
I have to have every disc so I went to pick up remaining ones and I tought
I’d start with Mystery Train and then I found out it was whopping 39.95??
please recommend me some cheaper sites that ship internationally.
The Criterion website for one sells them cheaper than Amazon lately.
Criterion does not ship internationally tho …
@micky_ward: You should wait for the bi-annnual Barnes&Noble Criterion sale (which will begin soon)
‘BORDERS’ SALE ON NOW
- Ends Sunday July 4th
- 50% discount, BLU-RAYS, maximum 2 DVDs
I had some difficulty with this ad. Apparently it is ‘all in-store Blu-rays, select Blu-Rays on-line’. There is free shipping ($25.00+ ) for American residents, pay-as-you-go for us furryners.
On-line code is … BTJ7933K …
You must be a member of their Rewards program. Free to join.
I tried to order two Criterion, but without success. Think they forgot to flag Criterion for the promo. If you live in a city where there is a Borders store, it might be worth a visit. I found out about the sale through an email which I received because I had joined the Rewards program. Will forward it to anyone who requests same.
did anyone notice and compare prices between canadian and us Amazon.
Close-Up is again whopping 36.49 us dollars(?) while canadians sell it
for 28.57 canadian dollars(?).
@Micky – For once Canadians get something more than US! It’s only the blu ray version though.
That Canadian conversion to US dollars comes out to about $27 at the moment meaning about a $9 saving overall.
Please remember that if you are intending to purchase more than $100 during the B/N 50% off sale which starts tomorrow, definitely get the B&N card as it will pay for itself. You’ll get the 10$ off and the new membership discount. (note: Last sale, people were taking advantage of the get the new membership and cancel within the 30 days. Not sure if B&N has put a stop to this.)
To get the Criterion Blu-rays for $13….during the sale, use the following coupon (print it out) – This coupon can be used once per store. So, if you have several B&N stores, you are in luck:

Also, you may want to utilize the Bing cashback program which ends on July 30th:

Also, AAA members get 10% off, so if you have an AAA card, you may want to utilize this thread. It may stack with your B&N membership to get a total of 20% off:

I’ll be posting coupons and how other people went about getting significant deals as well on this thread.
Thanks KNDY….keep the deals coming!
I also am new to buying at Barnes and Noble and am just curious of a few things…..
first do you have to put in a promotion code for the 50% discount? Or will it automatically show up when you add it to your cart….
second, anyone ordering from Canada? is the shipping a lot more??
Andrew: The sale will be 50% off tomorrow, it’s when you check out, you want to put any coupons that come up. Hopefully we should get some online 15%-20% off coupons within the next 24 hours aside from the in-store coupons.
Just remember that if you intend to spend over $100, I highly recommend getting the card as you will get the additional 10% off and usually a 20% off coupon for joining. So the card literally pays for itself.
As for the Canada question, I think people have reported paying a lot more living there and I believe Alaskan residents have had problems ordering from the previous sale.
Is there any worth to Non US residents becoming B & N members? Living in UK I probably plan to spend about $150 on criterion DVD’s once the sale begins. I’m not sure if I would use it at any other time though as i buy my region 1 DVD’s usually through Amazon market place. The main benefit seems to be free P + P which I wouldn’t get.
The sale is on now.
I need coupons.
Trying to get coupons right now. Membership gives 10%off, AAA gives another 10% off but for some reason, some prices seem more expensive than the last sale for some of the box sets but for the most part. Very good deals.
For someone who needs my excel spreadsheet (to keep on their cell) for what to find and also utilizing the recommendations from Ebert, Criterion Collection top 10, Maltin, etc., can click here:

For those who have never ordered before!!!!!!!
20% off One Item for New Customers [Exp. 08/08]
KNDY, that is one glorious spreadsheet. I salute you
Another good one….this one seems to be working ONLY if you do not use the AAA and plan to buy one item!!! It says expires on 7/18 but I tried it and it seems to be working.
15% off One Item for All Customers [Exp. 07/18]
I can’t believe I just bought Rosselini’s War Trilogy for $34.99. Absurd.
Just placed my first 50% off order! (there might be more to come)
- Cassavetes box set
- La Haine
- Gomorrah
- Revanche
With shipping (to Canada) and the coupons I used, only dropped 130…..awesome
This is how things are looking with the AAA and Membership discount:
