I see no one else is as big of an AK enthusiast as I…=[
Those paintings were also included in the book that came with the AK100. I enjoyed them quite a bit.
I know that he did the Kagemusha paintings because he didn’t think that he would ever get to make the film. Financing for him in those later years was a hard thing to come by.
Yes I know…Say what you will about George Lucas, but him along with Coppola helped to bring us one of Kurosawa’s finest masterpieces.
Could anyone post any pictures of those paintings on here? I can’t find the booklet (really mysterious to me as how it was lost) and I’ve really been wanting to see them.

There are a few more right here.
Amazing stuff. He’s a truly fantastic painter ontop of being the greatest filmmaker of all time.
Love the 2nd and 4th ones down.
Thank you so much. I didn’t know he painted for his other films like Ran. The one of Hidetora with the bow and arrow is incredible.
Would anyone know where his works are on display? A museum or private collector or any news as to their wherrabouts? (sorry for that spelling error)
This site sells some prints (no overseas orders at the moment) and it also has exhibition listings (doesn’t look like there are any coming up that aren’t in Japan.)
Also there is some expensive as hell book out there that has most of his storyboards in it.
Thanx buddy. Can’t wait till i’m filthy rich…I’ll be just as big a completist with his paintings as I am with his films.
Hidden Behind the Screen
I seem to remember having a booklet that came with the criterion Kagemusha and it featured several pages of AK’s paintings. i thought they were fantastic, but when I looked for it today it was gone. Very strange.
Has anyone else seen this? I know he has more paintings he’s made pertaining to different subjects that he’s made throughout his life. Personally with all the films he’s done I don’t know where he finds the time or patience for paiting, but what can I say the man’s fantastic.
Thoughts anyone?
