The Place To Get Classic Movies On DVD IS.....
Just got The Big Red One two-disc special edition of the “reconstruction” of the movie, as well as the two-disc edition of Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid.
A week ago, I got Evening (which was quite good) and White Heat (which disappointed).
I would like to go back and get Luchino Visconte’s The Damned as well.

I think serendipity has a lot to do with the selections at the various stores.

I really think that as we work our way through the whole DVD phase out mess, that a lot, a lot, of these classic movies are just going to be cheaper, and cheaper and cheaper, including the Criterion DVDs.
Now’s the time to really stock up on this stuff, so you’ll have stuff that you’ll really want to be able to view in the future, for a pittance compared to what you will surely have to pay for it in the future. And that’s not even mentioning the amount of time that it takes to actively seek out, and acquire, specific movies that you’d want.

T.J. – I wish….those Kino Classics went on sale….Many DVD’s they have that I I want as well but I despite my large collection, I’m literally a cheap ass when it comes to DVD purchases….hehe…
Always looking for the best deal and I often wondered if the Kino’s will ever go the 40-50% off route as the Criterions have.
And just to add to what Frank posted…Criterion Blu-ray’s on Amazon are also from $16-19, so definitely worth taking advantage of. Although, I was so used to getting things quickly with the B&N sale (3-days), I will say that I still have not received my Amazon Criterion purchases yet (going on 9-days now) but I got my Woody Allen 3-box set collection quickly. [btw – Woody Allen all three box sets – 19 films are on sale for $78]
Big Lots DVD sale starts on Dec. 20th but I went today and also a friend in other state went today and I guess the sale is in effect today. 4 DVD’s for $10.
Also, posted on another thread but the Billy Wilder 9 DVD box set that goes for $110 is being sold by a third party for $29.99 on Amazon.com. The third party said he had three overstocks directly from MGM/Fox of that set, I purchased one and so there should be two left (unless its gone by now).
As for today’s Big Lot’s score, I purchased 8 DVD’s for $20 even with the sale.

If there’ s a slash on the barcode with those DVDs on Ebay, it’s likely they’re getting them from Big Lots! or elsewhere similar.
I’ve let this thread lay fallow for a little while, but I did just want to pass along my most recent Big Lots! $3 purchases:
The NC-17, uncut version of Almodovar’s “Bad Education” and Robert Rossen’s “Lilith.”
The funny thing with “Bad Education” was, it was at the bottom of one of the shelves, just sticking up maybe half an inch or so above its row of DVDs. I just happened to glance at the DVD simply because it was sticking up. Lo and behold, was I surprised when I realized what it was. If it had been down in the row with the other DVDs, I would’ve totally missed it.
I had actually been getting kinda tired of going into Big Lots! recently looking for DVDs, because there was a lot of the same stuff in there, stuff that I didn’t really want all that much either. And I haven’t been watching hardly any of them here lately, not even “Nowhere in Africa.” But that just went a long way to show me that it’s still rewarding to try to find cheap DVDs at Big Lots!

I goto my local dvd place and wal-mart/costco all the time. i have found lots of great movies for cheap. I also let my dvr run nonstop on the IFC/Sundance/Silverscreen/Drive-In-Classics/TCM/TCM2 and Scream. Have gotten about 50TB worth of movies. I used to run it nonstop on MonsterHD. I have gotten LOTS of 1080p Horror flicks that you cannot get on Bluray.
