Aronovsky :

“I’m just trying to have fun,” he said. “I think, for the first time in my life, you know, every single film that I’ve done so far I’ve been the only person in the room who wants to make the movie. And, I kind of am excited about doing a film where actually everyone wants to make it just to see what the experience is like and to see if I can do what I do in that world.”

“It’s not like I’m going to change my process,” he added of his move towards a very high profile commercial project. “I’m going to be working with the same team, and making, you know, really trying to do something very, very different and see what happens.”

So in other words he’s doing a sequel/offshoot to a movie franchise.

This pleases me greatly.

So Robocop fell through and he had to fill the void with another outrageously pulpy comic book film? I kind of wish that he was able to do Robocop instead, because I think it would have allowed him more freedom to put his artistic stamp on the project. I have not watched any of the X-Men movies besides the first two, but won’t Aronofsky have to work within the ridiculous parameters that have been set the last movies of the franchise? I am fine with him doing a comic book film, and I am sure that Aronofsky will make it interesting, but I wish he would have chosen a franchise that has not already beaten into the ground.

He’s already stated this film has nothing to do with the universes of the other films, it’s self contained.

I read a lot of comics and I still don’t think they’ve been done right. I think all of the better films have moments of greatness but I think Aronofsky will find some subtle details that no one has really tapped into yet. As such, I am excited.
