Of the ones I have seen:
1. Eraserhead
(BIG space)
2. Inland Empire
3. Blue Velvet
4. Twin Peaks
5. Mulholland Dr
6. Lost Highway
7. Wild at Heart
I’ll elaborate later, much later..
Consider that Twin Peaks was only good for about the first 7 episodes. Nevertheless its my no. 1 with Inland Empire and Blue Velvet tied for second and then everything else with Lost Highway at the end….unless you’re tripping….in which case it’s no. 1
1. Mulholland Drive
2. Blue Velvet
3. Lost Highway
4. Eraserhead
5. Inland Empire
6. The Straight Story
7. The Elephant Man

And does the Industrial Symphony No. 1: The Dream of the Brokenhearted count? If so then that would be number 9.
10. The Elephant Man
Have yet to see Dune and Wild at Heart.

5. Inland Empire (2006)

Of course, this has changed a lot over the years. When I was young for example, I absolutely didn’t like Wild at Heart. Lol.
If I could edit my post I would add the caveat that that was a list of Lynch films that I prefer, or my favorite in order, none of that best or worst nonsense.

The Grandmother
Lost Highway
Dune
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
Mulholland Drive
Blue Velvet
Eraserhead
The Elephant Man
Wild at Heart
Lost Highway
The Straight Story
I just finished watching the second series of Peaks about 5 minutes ago and this thread popped up. I disagree with the assessment that only the first series is any good, but definitely agree it loses steam for a while in the middle of the second before the final pick up. I didn’t realise it ended on a cliffhanger either so that was pretty infuriating. And a couple of the relationships just seem to change instantly without an explanation, but I’ll let network pressure take the blame for that.
Bob has to be one of the greatest scary characters in film/TV ever. Very impressive for a guy who was a set decorator until one of Lynch’s whims took over.
As for his other work, I’ll give my top three:
Inland Empire
Mulholland Drive
The Elephant Man
1. The Elephant Man
2. Blue Velvet
3. Lost Highway
4. Inland Empire
5. Mulholland Dr.
6. The Straight Story
Al good though.
What I’ve seen:
1. Blue Velvet and Mulholland Dr. (tie)
2. Inland Empire
3. Twin Peaks (TV series)
4. Wild at Heart
5. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me
6. Eraserhead
7. The Elephant Man
8. Lost Highway
It’s hard to define a Lynch film as bad. But here is my Lynch top ten from best to least liked.
1. Mulholland Dr.
2.Wild At Heart
3. The Elephant Man
4. The Straight Story
5. Eraserhead
6. Blue Velvet
7. Inland Empire
8. Lost Highway
9. Dune
Haven’t seen Fire Walk With Me completely.
1. Mulholland Dr.
2. Twin Peaks
3. Blue Velvet
4. Fire Walk With Me
5. Lost Highway
6. Elephant Man
7. Wild at Heart
8. Eraserhead
9. Inland Empire
They’re all amazing
1. Eraserhead
2. Mulholland Drive
I would place those two in my top 20 all-time, if not top 15
3. The Elephant Man
4. Blue Velvet
5. Inland Empire
6. Lost Highway
I don’t see how anyone could enjoy Lost Highway. It was devastating. One of the worst films I’ve ever seen.
Lost Highway was my favorite movie for the longest time. I still think it’s pretty damn great. Over time I decided that Blue Velvet is Lynch’s best moment, a perfect match of his generally abstract appeal with a good concrete story behind it that anyone can “understand”, though the details and symbolism work as well as any of his other movies.
I don’t know about a list. For the purpose of brevity, I’ll just say that I really don’t like Wild at Heart and Dune, and his Dumbland shorts are egregious. Otherwise, I’ven’t seen Straight Story, though I really want to.

7. Lost Highway
8. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me

Adam Cook
As of today I finished watching every film by David Lynch (excluding Dune, and including Twin Peaks). I have been watching it all in chronological order, most of which I was watching for the first time. I doubt that how I feel about his films will stay the same but I wanted to make record of the order of my preference. So here is a list from best to worst (although even the worst is good) of David Lynch’s work.
1. Mulholland Drive
2. Twin Peaks
3. Blue Velvet
4. Inland Empire
5. The Straight Story
6. Fire Walk With Me
7. Lost Highway
8. Wild at Heart
9. Eraserhead
10. The Elephant Man
Share your own list, elaborate, and perhaps we can get yet another good Lynch conversation going.
