Three Colors Trilogy: Which one of the three do people like best?

I’ve seen Blue and Red but not White, and I’d say they were about equal in terms of how much I enjoyed them.

I would say Julie, because of her strength of character. As angry as she was she could not deny to do the right thing.

If you look at all three together, Julie is the rock of the bunch, the strongest and the most conflicted, suffered the greatest pain, yet rose above and remained strong.

Julie is Binoche in Blue, right? I’d pick that as the best one too.

ORDER OF PREFERENCE:

Red
White
Blue

Blue was in a way painful for me to get through lol — it was just sad, I guess.

1) Blue – The most emotionally affecting, due to both Juliet Binoche’s performance and the beautiful score. Also the best use of the visual color palet.
2) Red – The most thematically interesting and thought provoking.
3) White – Not that it doesn’t have its own fine moments, but I don’t think its holds up when compared to the other two.

1) Red- The best for the affecting relationship between Jean-Louis Trintignant’s and Irene Jacobs.
2) White- The most underrated of the three.
3) Blue- Juliet Binoche at the top of her game.

1. Red – Masterpiece. 9.5/10

2. White – easily the most underrated of the three. A Very good film. 9/10

3. Blue – the least interesting story of the trilogy. Amazing acting, music, and cinematography however make up for it. 8.5/10

I’d have to go with White. I like how the main character, if I remember correctly, was put in jail and escapes through hiding himself in a suitcase and I like how he got back at the Julie Delpy character at the end of the film. I don’t remember exactly what happened to her at the end of the film, but the main character made her pay for putting him in jail.

@Jaeger Sorry to have revealed some of the plot of White, but I just wanted to state the reasons why I liked White so much.

“Which one of the three do people like best?”

i’m not a huge fan of the Color trilogy and frankly, it’s not such a major Kieslowski work as some critics make it look like. there are merits and some undoubtedly lavish symbolisms but the whole project is quite inferior to Kieslowski’s Polish period, a good but not masterful swan song.

if i were to say one, i’d say all 3 in an equal way.

Saw them when they first came out and back then I really enjoyed them all, but was convinced
Red was the masterpiece, then White, as I found the love story enchanting and moving, then Blue, which I admired but found cold and aloof.

Over the years the order changed with White becoming my favourite, as the film seemed to open up far more with repeated viewings, with Red in second place, still a masterpiece, although I began to find Jacob’s performance slightly ingratiating and Blue, languishing in third place.

Today, Blue is my favourite film, it’s coldness having transmogrified into warmth and its aloofness to familiarity. In terms of mise-en-scene, music, narrative, acting and photography it is remarkable. White remained in second place; and finally Red. Having said that, I still think they are all the work of a luminous talent and it wouldn’t be stretching the point to state they’re all examples of film as high art.

I can’t really choose a favorite personally … I just see the piece as a whole and I don’t watch just one when i watch them, i make it a 6 hour event, hah
I watched one and I feel like the message isn’t complete … like choosing a favorite chapter out of a novel, doesn’t feel right?

obviously RED…..and then Blue of course and i find white is ordinary but enjoyable.

I’ve consistently found Blue to have the most power. I originally though White was weak, but it has grown on me over the years. When I rewatch these, I like to watch all three, in order, within a couple of weeks. But all in one night would be too much for me. I do think they reinforce each other.

Definitely Blue, for me – that music, the photography… the emotional quality of it all. Then Red, more cerebral, i thought but very good. I did not find White very memorable. There are times though when I think Red may be stylistically and narratively tighter and more masterful than Blue – but Blue draws me in more…

All equal. It’s a trilogy and it works great as that. Quite possibly the best trilogy ever made (well at least arthouse trilogy).

Blue
White
Red (I know a lot of people prefer Red, but it just didn’t do as much for me..)

I just started The Decalogue, which I can already tell will be just as amazing..

I prefer them in order… Blue, White, and then Red. I was expecting a lot more from Red when I saw it, based on everything I had heard, but I didn’t feel like either White or Red reached the bar that Blue set. The first scene with the car crash and the scenes at the hospital were beautifully done. I’d take Double Life over White and Red any day.

White has no resonance IMO. It’s a decent film, but it lacks the ‘metaphysical’ like qualities of the other two and therefore does not really feel part of the trilogy. It’s just a regular film to me.
