Dicillo is an odd director. I wouldn’t say I admire him but I liked The Real Blonde and Box of Moon Light when they came out. I have a feeling his films don’t age very well – they probably wear their 90s indie aesthetic too close to the sleeve. Living in Oblivion certainly doesn’t hold up well, if it ever did at all. And Double Whammy was just atrocious.
Anyway, I’ll pass on When You’re Strange. I hate the fucking Doors.
I like the doors and hear this is a quirky doc.
I enjoy the director’s wit and 90s oddness, he and Eric Schaeffer are probably my fav American directors that came out of the 90s, an admittedly weak decade
Den, 9 PM where? I want to see this (it’s actually showing at the Alamo Drafthouse soon, but…). What time zone?
And, unlike Ari, I LOVE The Doors. Really effing creepy and awesome stuff. ;)

9pm CA time zach.
I imagine it plays at 9pm on yr pbs as well
Den, ah, okay. I never know how timezones work on the western seaboard as opposed to the eastern. All I know is that, whatever time it comes on on the east coast, it comes on one hour earlier for me. :P

You’ll want to check your local PBS station’s listings; I find there’s little uniformity when PBS programming airs (unless this is changing.)
I saw this movie in san sebastian film festival
i enjoyed it a lot. but it’s done for the fans of the doors.
Good movie, too much narration and some bad new footage
but the concert footage and photos are tops
I wanted to watch it, but for some reason PBS comes in very poor on my television (station in front of it too)
This won Best Long Form Music Video at the Grammys

Tom DiCillo is a director I admire. Real Blonde and Johnny Suede being his best works.
He has a documentary on The Doors showing on PBS tonight. When You’re Strange opened in festivals to poor reviews last year but this is a new cut with narration added. I suspect it will be great.
PBS American Masters Series 9pm tonight
