tony curtis debut
R.I.P. Bernie Schwartz
This is a real tragedy
He was a rangey actor (compare Some Like it Hot to The Vikings)
I always considered him Hollywood royalty (married to Janet Leigh, father of Jamie Lee Curtis).
In recent years he has been known more as a talk show favorite and artist but in the right role, no one was better
oh man. sucks.
@ Liam & Danny
Thanks for your efforts. The only thing a person leaves behind is how he/she is remembered. These are fitting tributes to his memory.
I will miss Arthur Penn’s contributions as well.
RIP sir.
Man, what a thoroughly depressing week.
This hurts my heart.
Sad news. He was a far more versatile actor than often given credit for. Another great Hollywood actor who never won an Academy Award. One of the last greats from that generation (don’t go yet, Kirk).
“don’t go yet, Kirk”
or Ernie or BacallFarewell, Mr. Tony Curtis (also known as Bernie Schwartz).

There will never be anuddah.
I’m going to see “Sugar” (the stage musical version of “Some Like It Hot”) tomorrow at the Melbourne Arts Centre. Tony shall definitely be in my thoughts.
Goodnight sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
May you rest in peace with all the angels in heaven Mr. Tony Curtis.
I wasn’t a fan or anything but I really liked him in Vikings.
I’ll just say to him go meet Janet in the afterlife because I hate all this angel and demons talk.
Classy as ever, Dimitris.
Any help to post a YouTube video ??
Thank you.For someone whose strong suit was light comedy…It’s amazing the number of great directors he managed to work with…
Kubrick
Kazan
Mackendrick
Roeg
Huston

A. Mann
The Great Imposter, the Defiant Ones, The Outsider, and Trapeze are some of my favorite Tony Curtis movies. I found him to be an interesting and intriguing man who I could listen to all day when he was on talk shows.
Fear no more the heat o’ the sun,
Nor the furious winter’s rages;
Thou thy worldly task hast done,
Home art done, and ta’en thy wages:
Golden lads and girls all must,
As chimney-sweepers, come to dust.
Fear no more the frown o’ the great;
Thou art past the tyrant’s stroke;
Care no more to clothe and eat;
To thee the reed is as the oak:
The Sceptre, Learning, Physic, must
All follow this, and come to dust.
Fear no more the lightning-flash,
Nor the’all-dreaded thunder-stone;
Fear not slander, censure rash;
Thou hast finished joy and moan:
All lovers young, all lovers must
Consign to thee, and come to dust.
No exorciser harm thee!
Nor no witchcraft charm thee!
Ghost unlaid forbear thee!
Nothing ill come near thee!
Quiet consummation have,
And renownèd by thy grave!
Oh, well then.
No reason left to live.
Cheerio, everybody.

*(Fiiiinnnnneee, nooooo, I’m not gonna kill myself over Tony Curtis. I just… contemplated it for a while).
I think a lot of people are going to be having Tony Curtis marathons this weekend. Myself included…
NOOOOOOOOO!!! I had no idea, this is awful. :(

Say good night, Josephine…
Remember an interview where Curtis made a joking reference to himself in drag – something to the effect: “I never saw a dame that looked as good as I did.” Well, he was married to the likes of Janet Leigh, so he may have been having us on a bit. Tony Curits was perhaps one of the few actors that could hold his own in a scene with Jack Lemmon. It was the perfect vehicle for two talented clowns.
I like this anecdote about a lesser known role for Curtis in Rosemary’s Baby (from wiki):
When Rosemary calls Donald Baumgart, the actor who goes blind and is replaced by Guy, the voice heard is that of actor Tony Curtis. Farrow, who had not been told who would be reading Baumgart’s lines, recognized the voice but could not place it. The slight confusion she displays throughout the call was exactly what Polanski hoped to capture by not revealing Curtis’ identity in advance.

Is that you, Tony?
Somewhere on a cloud, two angels in drag are having a good laugh about it all…
RIP Tony. What a talent! My two favorites were Trapeze and The Boston Strangler. Thanks, Tony.
