1978 was not a banner year… Here’s what I’ve got:

The Deer Hunter (Cimino)
In a Year of 13 Moons (Fassbinder)
Days of Heaven (Malick)
Autumn Sonata (Bergman)
Halloween (Carpenter)
Violette Noziere (Chabrol)
Place Without Limits (Ripstein)
Interiors (Allen)
The Driver (Hill)
Dawn of the Dead (Romero)

Yeah, 1978 was a weak year, sad to say. I could do with seeing Place without Limits, highly regarded by Mexican (and other) critics i think. Hypothesis of the Stolen Painting and Tree of the Wooden Clogs may be worth your checking out if not already (the former i’ve not seen in full myself), and i would love to see the great Manoel de Oliveira’s Amor de Perdicao/Doomed Love

I have seen the Olmi, which is alright, but not a favorite.

Amazingly, I just had Hypothesis of the Stolen Painting show up from NetFlix today. I will give it a shot, for sure.

Local Hero (Forsyth)
The Right Stuff (Kaufman)
Trading Places (Landis)
One Deadly Summer (Becker)

Nice kenji, tho I wil have to catch up w/ the Tarkovsky and One deadly summer? ive never heard of that

Kenji

It’s not a masterpiece though it did well at the French César awards, and if you can bear seeing Isabelle in her sexy youth wearing, er nothing, then any shortcomings may be forgiven. Actually it sets out as what appears a frivolous sort of sex comedy, but then….well, i won’t give too much away, but i was affected also by some psychological depth.

That’s Suzanne Flon on the left, who won the César for best supporting actress
