The Lion King- I would say every Disney movie, but in my life time i’ve seen this movie 100+ times
Star Wars- This movie was always just awesome.
Batman Mask of the Phantasm- Batman was always, always my favorite hero.
Rushmore- I loved that movie. It was on the WB (Now CW) at like 2 on a sunday afternoon. I loved it, even though I was like..10.
Indiana Jones- It had the same feeling as Star Wars.

Alot of people here are mentioning Back to the future.
I’ve never seen it. I wonder if that’s bad?

Before 10.. these poor tapes were worn thin..

The Road Warrior
After Hours (no I’m not joking, I was fascinated with this movie)
Back to the Future (series)
The James Bond series
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Batman (’89)
High Plains Drifter (I stayed up late watching this with my grandma one night and it had a pretty big impact on me..snuck it onto a Beta tape next time it was on..)

And a lot of other usual stuff really..

I have pretty strong memories of seeing Blue Velvet at 8.. might have left some damage.. thanks Dad!

Freaky Friday (old version)
Labyrinth
Return to Oz
Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (was scared of this for some reason)
Groundhog Day (first grown-up movie I liked)
Alice in Wonderland (creepy, long live-action one with Ringo Starr in it)
Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland
Clue

And another: All Dogs Go to Heaven

And one more: Batman Returns
(I will always remember how terrified I was when I saw the Penguin character)

I don’t think The Shining is appropriate but somehow my parents thought so.
Didn’t get adequate sleep for days…

Star Wars. I snuck off ALONE to see it whilest on summer vacation in Bangor, Maine 1977. I was barely 12, and it took me 2 busses to get to the theater across town in a city I had never been in before, in a blistering heatwave. I simply had to see it. I lived in a small Canadian town at the time, and KNEW it would be ages before it played at home. I had to see it so when school started, I could gloat. So I did, And I did. But boy oh boy, did I get yelled at when I got back to the motel later that day, but it was TOTALLY worth getting grounded the rest of the summer. :-)

WILLOW. CLASH OF THE TITANS.
TEMPLE OF DOOM.
I’ve just resigned myself to the fact that no matter how much of a film buff I strive to be from here on out, no matter how much time I could commit to repeatedly watching, re-watching, and studying a particular “serious” title, I’ll never be able to top the number of views I’ve clocked between these two titles. And I’m sure that’s had a deeply unalterable effect on the way I see all movies. Like learning a language in infancy as opposed to later-life. Christ, I love them unconditionally…

If it wasn’t completely hand-drawn, it had to feel grown-up to me; no Mary Poppins or Bednobs and Broomsticks for this boy. So it was:

Yellow Submarine.
Dumbo, (re-release at the local Drive-In during very late 60’s or eary 70’s—my Dad grumbled like Darrin McGavin fixing a tire for the length of the feature.)
A Boy Named Charlie Brown, (same Drive-In, same Dad.)
Planet of the Apes (the real version)
and the Godfather Pt. I.

“The Red Balloon” or “P’tang Yang Kipperbang” were two films about childhood that I remember from my actual childhood. I remember my mum paying a fortune for a VHS of Mike Hodges’ “Flash Gordon” when it first came out on VHS and we all had the crunchy top loaders. “Raiders of the Lost Ark” figures there somewhere- opening night in 1981 at the Empire in Leicester Square. I was 9 years-old. When I got a bit older “Wish You Were Here” had quite an effect on me: 1987 at the Odeon Haymarket, sadly now defunct.

1. Disney’s The World’s Greatest Athlete (1973) – I remember seeing this in the theatre and then pretending to be Nanu for weeks.
2. King Kong (1976) – saw this in the theatre four times and thought there would never be a movie that could top it.
3. Wizard of Oz – every year when it appeared in the tv guide my brother and I freaked out with anticipation.
4. Swiss Family Robinson – did you see that treehouse? I mean really, did you see that treehouse?
5. Planet of the Apes – when this movie hit tv in 1974 I remember my mother was so against us watching it. I still remember her saying to me – you know those monkeys aren’t real don’t you? Thanks Dad for overuling her!

I have a hard time remembering what I liked as a kid. As a really young kid, I think I liked disney movies a whole lot. But when I started to form tastes about what I saw I used to watch almost exclusively comedies. I didn’t really get into film seriously until probably a few years ago, actually. From what I remember:

Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Spaceballs
The Wizard (because it had super mario bros. in it)
Naked Gun (any of the three films)

if we’re talking about films we watched growing up and NOT films aimed at kids?

Ghostbusters is, and always shall be, numba motha fuckin’ ONE!!!

followed by:
The Princess Bride
Goonies
The Last Unicorn (fuck you!)
and last, but never least, INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADES bitches!!!

runners up:
The Empire Strikes Back & Return of the Jedi (we didn’t have Star Wars [Episode IV as they call it these days…but fuck that, I’m a fan of the good ole days!] on BetaMax)
