I’m assuming a moderator should not be participating in the mocking of MUBI member. But judging by some moderator’s posts, maybe I’ve got it wrong.
Moderators need to be more proactive about removing personal attacks. It’s part of the culture here that various members will clash and that rhetoric will go over the top. When a thread begins like this one, a special eye should have been kept on it. Most of the early posts should have been moderated.

I didn’t mock anyone. I said I thought it was a joke. Wasn’t aware of the previous conversation that started this, as many of you may be unaware of some of the history with some of the principals here. Also, I’m having to post from my phone lately and it doesn’t always let me moderate. Don’t always assume the worst, guys.

Not shutdown conversations merely because you want him at your beck and call to do so. Nor is it his job to get admin. to pay attention to the forum because you called on him. If you’re upset you can go and contact admin. just as easily.
Weird that some of us are mocking others for reacting with such vitriol to opinions they don’t agree with, but the moment their own is challenged they begin questioning the work ethics of those holding a job they don’t even know the requirements of…

well i said that they should be prepared for backlash… his intentions could’ve been completely innocent, but honestly, i’m not surprised that there was backlash about the distribution threads he posted.
Jazz disagreed with Santino and managed to discuss it without being a bitch. I know it’s hard, but it can be done.
When we disagree, we argue and debate. Even good natured ribbing is cool, but I think Santino would have joined the fray if that’s what he saw here.
for some people around here that’s true. but unfortunately we can’t all be as civilized as ya’ll… just like everyone’s taste is different, people are different… and it’s not that surprising to see jerry making a confrontational post like this, that’s what he does!
it seems like some people have a very idealized view of what these forums should be like… but what’s the answer? just start banning everyone who falls out of line? moderating everything? it’s not fair to blame house of leaves for not doing his job… he stated that he thought it was a friendly in joke… and lately, i think they do a good job of determining what to moderate, and when to let us police ourselves.

@Falderal – The job of a moderator is to moderate. I’ve seen threads shut down before for content reasons, so I see no reason that this one should be immune. If HoL wants to say that he can’t shut the thread down, then fine; at least show me that you’re working on it, which he has now done by indicating that he’s posting from his phone, which does not always allow him to moderate.
My problem isn’t that Jerry disagrees with Santino’s approach. Disagreement is welcome. But there is a level of vitriol that’s unwarranted. I don’t see how this isn’t under the purview of a moderator’s job. If they don’t moderate this type of thing, then what exactly do they do? More than one post on this thread has been flagged, so I’m sure it’s being looked into. The thread itself is a personal attack. What place does that have here?

That’s not his job. You’re speaking out of ignorance, and like I said, if you were truly offended you could’ve gone to Efe, or Gabe, or Daniel, or Adam, or Kurt (or a list of other actual paid employees on this site) and wrote them a message explaining your objection. Problem solved.
You decided not to, and go along with another vitriolic contingent on this forum; those that meaninglessly attack moderators with absolutely no understanding of what they actually do, or how much control they actually yield.
And, on a personal note, Fredo was one of the chief members of that contingent. I find it funny he speaks about “cyberstalking” in his final post of his most recent incarnation because when I was a moderator he would literally complain to admin. every single time a post was moderated on a thread I posted on (is it a wonder they don’t spend time on the forum anymore?), and mention me by name (my real one) complaining about my job.
