1947 Snow Trail – directed by Senkichi Taniguchi
1947 These Foolish Times – Parts 1 & 2 – directed by Kajiro Yamamoto

Anywhere to find these? I can’t seem to find any info on them!

I would be satisfied with any copy that exists!

I don’t think they have any sort of DVD release and I think they are only in rather unavailable VHS copies. I hope to be proven wrong though.

I saw Snow Trail on TV (in HD) not so long ago. It’s in great condition and there’s no reason at all it shouldn’t have a DVD release. Toshiro Mifune is still very, very popular you know.

A quick check and…

Ah, there you go: http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E9%8A%80%E5%B6%BA%E3%81%AE%E6%9E%9C%E3%81%A6-DVD-%E8%B0%B7%E5%8F%A3%E5%8D%83%E5%90%89/dp/B0002AP1XE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1288569268&sr=8-1

- Scripted by Kurosawa too, that pretty much guarantees it doesn’t fade away.

These foolish Times on the other hand might be a bit more tricky.

Nice thanks for the info, I wonder if there is anywhere to pick up a copy of it in the US.

Or if that has english subtitiles

Ah, English subs might be difficult. You did say ‘any copy that exists…’. None of the versions circulating online (which seem to come from this DVD) have subs, so I imagine there’s not much available right now.

If you still want it though, Amazon is easy enough to import from (a little expensive though, I imagine).

I was able to find a download with good subs of ‘Snow Trail’ but also (legally) you can actually watch it on hulu+’s criterion section which is signaling that sometime in the future they will be releasing it on Criterion Collection’s DVDs.
