Yeah, just finished this a couple of minutes ago. Looks average.
Eww, what a gross rash.
I think it looks amazing. I’m a big fan of Aronofsky, and I love watching dance, so how could I not be excited?
“Looks average”
Ah, don’t you just love kneejerk reactions?
I’m excited too. It has Aaronofsky’s touch with faces and close-ups and anguished intensity, but looks to be transplanting it into a more classical/modernist aesthetic, which I think will suit him (in contrast to his “gritty realistic” mode of Wrestler, Requiem, and Pi). Maybe it’ll live in that high-concept space of The Fountain, but be a little more down to earth about it.
Great cast, I like the subject matter, I do plan on seeing it, I just hope it does not dissolve into Single White Female.
can’t.
fucking.
wait.
stupid.
double.
post.
Haven’t read a thing about the story, but doesn’t the preview suggest that the ballerina is literally turning into a “black swan”. That last shot of her pulling something out of her skin reminds me of Jeff Goldblum’s body early on as he morphs into “The Fly”.
^ That movie had me pissing fear when I first saw it. (I was young)
That would be cool if jeff goldblum made a cameo in it.
Red Shoes rip off shot.
It’s about ballet, so I guess it’s just kind of mandatory to rip off that film.
I love all of Darren Aronofsky’s work so far, and I’m sure this will be no exception. It looks incredible.
Holy shit can’t wait!
Shit, i’m gonna go see it!
looks interesting can’t wait to see it. Darren is the man
This looks good, but I sense a fairly obvious ‘twist’. Hopefully I’m dead wrong.
Looks fantastic… simply fantastic.
That opening line is what used to be one of my favorite jokes as a kid: “Once upon a time there was a boy. And then he died. THE END!” Five seconds into the trailer, and I’m already on Aronofsky’s page!
I am digging the grayscale pallet. Notice the cuts to lights as she spins? Once again, true to Aronofsky form, we’re going to see this picture from inside the characters’ emotions, rather than from an outsider perspective.
I only hope that the transformation allusions are magical realism and not dream sequences. Dream sequences are disappointing.

Is anyone planning on seeing this at Toronto? If so, how hard do you plan on it being to get in a screening?
Also I can’t wait to see it. If I do end up going to TIFF, I will try to get into a screening. If not, I’ll probably have to wait until Christmas at best.
“This looks good, but I sense a fairly obvious ‘twist’. Hopefully I’m dead wrong.”
Clint, I’m pretty sure Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman are the same character (shock! twist! omgwtfbbq!) and that the whole physical transformation thing reflects that character watching herself fall apart. So yes, fairly obvious and, well, thesedays we call it “Lynchian” as opposed to Roegian or Borgesian or any of the other writers and filmmakers that did the same thing. However, Aronofsky always strikes me with a strong personal style and above all I find his ability to have the audience experience the movie in the same emotional space as the main character will still make it worth watching. That is to say, this time around, WE may get to be the itchy wings-sprouting multiple personality act too!
Edit: also, I really like “that” story. No matter how many times I’ve seen it. Have you ever seen Stay ? It did the same thing Aronofsky does above, puts two characters in the exact same clothing and lets their identities merge from there.

This movie opens on Dec. 1, so is it probably going to still be in theatres on Dec. 24?
That’s my 17 birthday, so it’d be cool to know that even if I can’t find someone to take me all through Dec. I’ll still get to see it on my own!
Idon’tknowbutI’llbehomeDec1stI’lltotallygettoseethis! Woohoo!
