I don’t watch a lot of TV, but I do love Dexter, The Office, Arrested Development, Twin Peaks, Saturday Night Live, The Simpsons, Invader Zim, Daria, Carnivale and Flight of the Conchords.
I’m sure other people here have listed a lot of what I’m about to say already, but here are both my favorites and what I’ve heard are very good and I still need to see.
Faves: Arrested Development, Freaks and Geeks, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld, The Office (UK and US), Lost, Band of Brothers, Monty Python’s Flying Circus, South Park, Entourage, 30 Rock, Spaced, Chappelle’s Show, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia
Need to see: The Larry Sanders Show, The Wire, The Sopranos, Undeclared, Twin Peaks, Mad Men
[adult swim] provided a huge variety of animated shows for practically every taste. My favorite ones were: 12 oz mouse (poorly drawn cartoon but with a really deep and complex surreal plot), Home Movies (all of it a homage to cinema and the movie industry), Frisky Dingo and Harvey Birdman (parodies of superheroes in a world taken over by marketing and business), and Space Ghost from Coast to Coast (absurd and funny interviews hosted by Space Ghost ,with all kinds of people). I used to like Robot Chicken, but I lost interest because it used a lot of eschatological jokes and Star yuk Wars references.
Being from New York I’m naturally a Seinfeld fan, therefore, also Curb Your Enthusiasm.. I’ve followed The Sopranos, which is the bomb, but could never commit myself to another series.. As far as City of Men— The Brazilian TV series by Mierelles; stopped watching after a few episodes.
Weeeeeds!!
Seinfeld. Greatest sitcom ever.
The Office (UK) Closely following.
Arrested Development. (God, why is this gone???)
The Simpsons (The first nine seasons were excellent- don’t know what’s happened now)
South Park (Getting really prechy now)
Dexter (getting really soap opera-y)
The Daily Show and The Colbert Report
Top Gear (The original british version)
Drawn Together
Good News Week (Australian TV show)
The Chaser’s War on Everything (Another Australian TV Show)
Entourage
I’m getting back into Friends
And I love watching the Socceroos every time they play.

Oh, yeah I also watch my sisters and fathers DVD’s of Curb Your Enthusiasm. That is the greatest show I’ve ever seen. It’s still fresh.
Red Dwarf anyone? just came back this weekend after 10 whole years….
I love 30 ROCK and THE OFFICE. Scripted comedy without a laughtrack and no live audience. What a concept. Television has turned into a trash can and these great shows are almost the only gems on the air currently.
I really enjoy Dr. WHo. And the BBC’s Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes, MI5 and Robin Hood. Our stuff i like CAstle, I have stuck with Heroes and have enjoyed many Smallville’s.
I, too, am a bit of a movie snob, but there are a couple of TV shows that I enjoy, most notably Arrested Development (props to Mitch Hurwitz and his team) and the BBC’s Black Books just because Dylan Moran is stinking hilarious.
Jesse, I must second Rocko’s Modern Life, a wonderfully strange, subversive cartoon that was neater and more focused than really any of the cartoons out at that time; like a streamlined Ren and Stimpy that was canceled before it went bad.
I heard that Joe Murray, the creator of Rocko, has been trying to reacquire the rights to the show so he can put out an all-inclusive, unedited Rocko DVD boxset. Wouldn’t that be grand?
Other than that:
Six Feet Under
Freaks and Geeks
Twin Peaks
Rurouni Kenshin -I’m not an anime fan, but this show was just so engrossing.
The X Files (Seasons 1-7.5)
The Simpsons
and Breaking Bad is definitely the best new show out there, at least out of everything I’ve seen.
Did anyone mention “Slings and Arrows,” a great Canadian show about a Shakespeare troupe? It is truly perfection. So is The Wire and The Prisoner, and it looks as if Breaking Bad could reach the same heights.
Two words
LITTLE BRITAIN!!!!!
and Monty Python’s Flying Circus, but so much for that.
My exposure to TV being limited…
Gilmore Girls
Monk
Smallville
Eli Stone
Judging Amy
All Creatures Great and Small
Two Fat Ladies (it’s a cooking program but entertaining)
I’m intrigued by Slings and Arrows, Wire, Singing Detective, The Shield… but Wire, in particular :-)
All time favourites…coming from someone who doesn’t really watch a lot of TV…
The Office US (just started, so gd funny!)
Oz
Seinfeld
The Sopranos (my TV holy grail)
30 Rock
Dexter
Little Britain
Rome
Lost
Dexter
Simpsons
South Park
Bored to Death
BBC production (Little Britain,The Office,Open All Hours etc.)
Desperate Housewives (great writing)
Parks and Recreation
Scrubs
1. seinfeld
2. arrested development
3. the wire
4. freaks and geeks
5. scrubs
6. the sopranos
i still need to catch up on a lot of shows but HBO is always a safe bet
southland is a cop drama that i have only watched a few times and found it surprisingly well-done/acted and is a show i plan on catching up on.
another show to check out is 3 south. its an old show from the creators of family guy and i think its more fresh and funny than family guy is
I disagree about Little Britain. It’s great the first time, but then, like whatsherface Catherine Tate as well, every single episode just repeats all the same jokes from the first one. Monty Python never stooped to that kind of laziness.
My picks:
South Park
Beavis and Butthead
Futurama
Robot Chicken
The Simpsons
The Critic
Family Guy (sometimes)
Harry Hill’s TV Burp
Monty Python’s Flying Circus
Blackadder
Fawlty Towers
Father Ted
The Office (UK)
Extras
The Ricky Gervais Show
Adventure Time
The Marvellous Misadventures of Flapjack
Regular Show
Kim Possible
Freakazoid!
Animaniacs
Pinky and the Brain
The Ren and Stimpy Show
Cow and Chicken
The Powerpuff Girl
Dexter’s Laboratory
Ed, Edd ’n Eddy
The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy
Spongebob Squarepants (seasons 1-3)
Peanuts TV specials (technically not shows, but close enough)
To be continued…
Also, I have to say, and I think that this goes for a lot of people, I really started to get into Invader Zim a while ago, not because of the LOL RANDOM jokes, but because of the dark, twisted, bleak humor, unique stylized designs, bizarre plot twists and hilarious voice acting!
But then, all of a sudden, my friends started quoting Gir.
NON. FUCKING. STOP.
Since then, I just can’t look at this show without immediately thinking of all the stupid LOL RANDOM jokes that my friends CONSTANTLY keep quoting. I would like to put it among my favorite shows, but I just can’t bring myself to do it, at least not at the moment.
