Bruce Robinson is a fine director
I believe it is a prequel though
I don’t think it matters whether it is a prequel or sequel, I don’t even know if it has any tie to the previous film.
I agree that Bruce Robinson is an excellent choice.
Depp doesn’t age any way
tho the pirate look makes him seem older
hopefully it will be better than the last Robinson film (jennifer 8)
isn’t this project really on again off again? i don’t have much faith in it actually getting made.
i would definitely see it, but there’s something i don’t get. the rum diaries? i’ve read it and it wasn’t that great. not much happens, which is why it was never released till hunter thompson got really famous.
isn’t there some better material they could make a movie out of? such as the kentucky derby?
The Hells Angels has always been my favourite.
It was shot here in Puerto Rico about two years ago. In 16mm!!!
Wonder why it has not been released yet.
Not a sequel or a prequel, great book and I’m sure a worthy film, and a great Hunter S. Thompson follow up to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, which to me personally, is the greatest movie.
I love the Gilliam!
“We’re your friends. We’re not like the others.”
“As your attorney, I advise you to rent a very fast car with no top.”
“There he goes, one of God’s own prototypes. A high powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, too rare to die.”
I’ve been watching the progress of this one for years. Bruce Robinson is one of my favorite directors and screenwriters.
The film has been shot and was in post production. It may be finished by now, but apparently they are trying to decide the best times and places to release it to get the best reception.
It’s not in any way a sequel or prequel to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas except that the books were both written by Hunter S. Thompson, both were based on real life experiences he had, and both star Johnny Depp.
I expect this to be very much Robinson’s movie and I hope he was able to have a lot of free reign on it because the man is creative, knows how to make a good film, and has been fucked over way too many times (a lot like Gilliam actually!)

Johnny Depp will be revisiting the role of Hunter S. Thompson (under the alias Paul Kemp) again in the adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s “The Rum Diary” said to be released in 2011. The film will not be directed by Terry Gilliam but by Bruce Robinson (Withnail & I). Any thoughts?
