Saturday works for me. I’m excited for Buñuel already.
I wish I could join you, but I’m in San Francisco! Let me know the details for the Buñuel screening on Saturday and I’ll send out a tweet from The Auteurs twitter profile. Do you know of any The Auteurs meetups in other cities like this?
See you guys there!
I’m absenting myself tonight due to an overwhelming need to go out and pick up my new laptop, and then fuck around with it. I know it’s hard to have fun without me, but I’m sure you’ll make do.
We did.
I know where you live.
Josh, I hope the new laptop works well!
A great evening you guys, although some of you didn’t take as much to Buñuel as I do. :(
Kurt, I enjoyed following you around. (In the most non-creepiest way possible.)
The laptop is pretty amazing, getting adjusted to being a part of Justin Long’s extended family.
And Bunuel is pretty great.
the post in which I fantasized of making, has been made in Stop the Lists.
See you guys in 2.5 weeks. Have fun at VIFF. I’m gonna see if I can catch any of the London Film Festival at the tail end of my trip.
Take care Marko.
And Kurt, what post were you referring to?
Josh’s question broke this thread.
okay to give this thread a jazzy rebirth, i propose two meetups:
You, The Living (cinematheque) – oct 22nd to 24th (one of these days, lemme know what works for you guys)
and
The Headless Woman (vancity theater) – which runs oct 21st, 22nd, 25th, and 26th.
lemme know what days work for you guys.
You guys are going to see You, the Living too? Unfortunately I’ll have to choose between those two since next week is kind of brutal for me, and as I’ve already seen that and not The Headless Woman yet, I think I’ll only be able to make it to the latter. :( As for the dates you mentioned Kurt, they all work for me so far.
Is Marko back yet from the UK?
Did you guys notice that Adriana left Auteurs a while back? I wanted to ask her about how she was finding Montreal as a city… She said before she left that she may be coming back in December, but now we’ve lost complete contact with her. :(
I can’t remember when Marko said he’d be back. and thats really too bad about Adriana, I don’t see why she had to close her account, maybe it was a distraction? I’m sure contact will be re-initiated at some point.
waiting Josh, Adam and maybe Marko chime in then we can decide on the dates that work.
I’m out of town on the 23rd and i anticipate i’ll be hungover for the 24th, so i say 22nd for you the living. as for the headless woman, i’ll leave that up to y’all, all days are equally fine with me.
I’ve also seen You The Living and I’m super excited to see it on the big screen.
okay so I’m game for the 22nd, Myra let us know if theres a possibility that you can join us. If not tell us what date for the Headless Woman works for you. Thanks.
Hey guys, I’m back. I look forward to hearing about your experiences at VIFF. As for meeting up, I can probably only do “the headless woman” on the 25th or 26th (although even those dates are still up in the air for me). Anyway, hope to see you guys soon.
I survived my workshop!!! I have been extremely sleep-deprived for the last 3 days with lesson planning… My brain and body turned into an efficient tea processing centre — I’m going to crash and burn very soon. On another note, Marko, I guess this little aside is for you since you teach as well — I’ve been inspired! It’s such a rewarding and fun experience.
So, in terms of cinema. I’ve decided that I’m going to see Breathless this Tuesday evening, provided I catch up on some much-needed sleep, so I think I’ll have to pass on You, the Living — sorry about that you guys. I thought about it and the weekdays for Headless Woman are actually better this time around for me, with a preference for the 21st (Wed) rather than the 26th (next Mon). That kind of contradicts with Marko’s scheduling though, which isn’t good. :(
Okay so we’re set for You, The Living on Thursday at 7:30 PM
now we just gotta rest on a Headless Woman date.
I’ll try to make You, The Living, but no promises. I think I may skip The Headless Woman as I’ve already seen it.
How about Halloween related screenings?
Myra + horror = self-induced fear and paranoia. I’m such a wuss.
Are there any in particular that stand out for people though?
I know me and Adam are going to Vancity Theater on halloween to see Rabid, The Hunger, and Vampyr (DREYER!CMMMOOON MYRA!)
I’m also going to make a point of seeing Suspiria at the cinematheque around halloween time.
and god damnit cook, you are coming to the god damned headless woman again.
btw, Triple H is coming to the Cinematheque; with ’The City of Sadness"
oh and either Zerkalo or Stalker too.
I was just thinking the other day which theatre I preferred, and was leaning toward Vancity due to its comfortable setting (the chairs are so great… and red!) and recent releases… but my goodness, Pacific has totally won me over with this future Hou screening. Where did you hear about A City of Sadness?! I am so overjoyed at the prospect of being able to see this on the big screen!
Dreyer at midnight on Halloween does sound very tempting, but I’m worried I’m going to be (almost) stranded downtown again…
Do we have a date for Headless Woman? And I concur… Adam, come see it again!
whatever you and Marko can agree upon works for me. scrap that Zerkalo/Stalker possibility, it sounds like its Andrei Rublev or Ivans Childhood.
and Myra, if you befriend the Pacific Cinematheque on facebook then you’ll see that they drop hints for future films in their status updates
I saw the tweet/status update on Facebook from them about ‘a tale of two cities’. What do you think the Liverpool one is? I can only think of Terence Davies’ Of Time and the City from 2008, but I’m guessing it’s already played here before?
Seems like A City of Sadness really is coming to Pacific! You guys, I’m so excited. It’s the new print from LA that is making its way around select cities in North America, with English subs only (apparently another older print had English and Chinese subs). It think it’ll play here from December 17-21. Make sure to be free then you guys! :D
That Deneuve/Belmondo comment is interesting as well… I wonder if it’s Truffaut’s Mississippi Mermaid.
Oh, just an update. I think it’s Lisandro Alonso’s Liverpool…
Marko
I’m gonna plan to be there, but I might not be able to make both shows.
