I’m going on Thursday for sure, not so certain about Saturday. We’ll see how that works out.

screenings were cancelled last night. Their boiler was acting up and couldn’t allow people into the building. shame.

we saw a single man instead. it sucked. shame.

Marko

I showed up for the second show last night, and they were open. I was wondering why you guys weren’t there. There were less than ten people at the whole show… but it was still on.

Too bad “A Single Man” sucked… I was looking forward to seeing it.

is everyone going to I Dont Want to Sleep Alone / In The Mood for Love tommorow? Cause I think we have a few people set for it!

Some of us think Ford (and Firth!) did a damn good job with Isherwood ‘s Single Man story!
Just thought I’d drop by the thread to see if any of my old west coast pals are here. I lived in Vancouver for a while (some thirty years ago) and have very fond memories of the theatres there — the Cinematheque, where I watched Head Over Heels (aka Chilly Scenes of Winter), the Varsity, where I saw Celine & Julie vont en bateau; the Ridge, where I saw Despair, and even up at UBC where I attended a pretty tame Rocky Horror. It was in Vancouver that I first saw Fantastic Planet, Apocalypse Now, My Brilliant Career, Breaker Morant, and maybe hundreds of other great movies, spanning the globe and the century. I wonder how many of the cinemas I remember attending downtown, on Broadway, in Kits, on Commercial, are still operating today?

KYT, it’s pretty cool that you have a history in (& a bunch of memories from) Vancouver. I think we all see this as a good city for film, and I think it’ll just get better.

Kurt, I’ll be there tonight with a friend of mine. I won’t be at “I Don’t Want to Sleep Alone” (although I know I need to see that film someday), but I’ll be at “In the Mood for Love”. I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time. See you there.

KYT, I’m sure a few cinemas are still around, although they may be under different names. The Cinematheque is still going of course. The Park Theatre is one of the older ones. A lot of multiplexes now.

I’ll be at the double bill tonight. I’ve been up since 6:30 though, so I’ll need lots of caffeine. Lots.

No Cinematheque for Joshua this weekend. Even my powers aren’t extensive enough to allow me entry into Cinematheques several hours away from my physical location.

Be back for Day of Wrath though.

CJ Roy

Neil and I won’t be able to attend I Don’t Want to Sleep Alone but we might be able to make it to In the Mood for Love, depends on when our screening is finished.

Myra

You guys… Being the clumsy person that I am, I randomly fell while at home and sprained my ankle not too long ago… :‘( I’m in pain… But nothing’s going to keep me from ITMFL, I’ve decided. I’ll hobble my way there if I have to! (I’ll try to be there for the Tsai…)

I think the cinema gods are against me. Of all the possible days for this to happen on… :’(

P.S. Josh, I can’t believe you won’t be able to make it! You shall be missed. :(

Oh no, Myra! I didn’t realize it caused you so much trouble to make it out tonight, glad you did though!

good seeing you guys. Hope we have a larger group for the next one!

edit: Adam and I are going to Day of Wrath tommorow. Marko/Myra/CJ/etc., you guys should come!

CJ Roy

Well Neil and I are catching the films tonight. I might be busy tomorrow though but if I can, I’ll totally see Day of Wrath.

sounds good CJ! Be sure to print out a google map before you head to VanCity theater though. Not to make it sound like a long commute.

CJ Roy

VanCity is the one near Granville 7 right?

Yea its a street below, and a few blocks down I believe?

edit: just got a call from neil! its too bad you hated I Dont Want to Sleep Alone as much as you did. =(

CJ Roy

I don’t hate it as much as he thinks I did, I just wasn’t interested at all throughout the entire film. So less hate, more lack of interest haha.

Neil Bahadur

I said he didn’t like it, haha, not hated it.

Btw, Nathan W brings up some interesting points, hey?

Damnit Adam, I won’t be at the screening but I might be at the meeting. Actually, I totally could. I will see what I am up to on that date sir.

Also, there is a screening of The Room on the 11th at 7:00pm. Man is that going to be awesome.

Tonight’s going to be a fun night at the Cinematheque!!

Marko

Some of the upcoming program at the Cinematheque is looking very interesting. Canada’s top ten might be cool, and of course “A Woman Under the Influence” (!!!!!!!!!!!!!)… but I’m most looking forward to some of the Frank Borzage and vaudeville stuff at the end of March. Sounds excellent.

Joshua W

I’ll be at most of the Canadian top ten of course, as well as A Woman Under the Influence and The Adjuster. Should be a good time.

Is anyone else going to “Inferno” this weekend @ the cinematheque? I’m planning on it, but it would be cool to bump into some of you. Let me know.
