I’m cool with the 4th as well, but if 9:15 on the 3rd still works for Adam, I think we should pick that date…only because it sounds like everyone is already good to go for that night. Is that cool with you, Adam?
I think the starbucks (on Howe) that’s really close to the Cinematheque would be a good meeting place before the show (maybe 1 hour before the show begins). Otherwise, we can all just meet up at the theatre. Doors will open half hour before start time.
Whatever is best for the majority. 9:15 on the 3rd or anytime on the 4th.
@Joshua
I would have been so down for the trial and the castle! Guess I missed out…
I’d prefer 9:15 on the 3rd, but if it isn’t possible for others I can do the 4th.
I just went to the link for Vancity. Tokyo Sonata is playing for the next little while! I don’t know if there are any Japanese cinema fans among you guys, but I’d be interested in watching that…
The Starbucks sounds like a fine meeting place, and I think the 9:15 showing on the 3rd will work fine for the majority, so let’s go with that. Anyone not available for that?
And Phat Magik, I haven’t heard anything about it getting played again. It was played last year during the Samurai fest, but not sure about this year.
Ill be there.
Well thank you for the news Josh. This samurai fest sounds awesome though, one time event I assume?
I haven’t read this whole forum so I’m just going to answer the origional statment.
I, just a little while ago, was really hyped about going to the Cinématique to see Tokyo Story and The Rules of the Game but then a realized that theres an age limit, which I didnt not meet, which at first I was very angery about but once I found out there was an understandable reason why I calmed down however I was still pretty sad that I wouldnt be able to see a classic on the Big Screen… but only a few more years and then Ill be able to join the rest of you film buffs.
What was the age limit? I’m going to assume either 18-19.
18+
I didn’t know there was an age limit for such things… Do I need to become a member at Pacific Cinémathèque to purchase tickets for Rashômon?
@ Myra: yes you do, its 3 bucks a year. you can get them at the door i think.
>I just went to the link for Vancity. Tokyo Sonata is playing for the next little while! I don’t know if there are any Japanese cinema fans among you guys, but I’d be interested in watching that…
Tokyo Sonata is magnificent!
I feel all caught up now… I just read through the entire thread. Marko’s been telling me about this discussion for a while now, and I finally got the chance to have a look. I’m hoping to join you guys for Rashomon on Friday!
So, just to clarify:
Rashomon, on Friday July 3 at 9:15pm @ Pacific Cinematheque.
I’ll be at Starbucks on Howe (with Jared) at 8:15. We can walk over to the theatre when the doors open (about half hour before the show starts I think). It sounds like there is a relatively large group of us. I look forward to meeting all of you.
I’ll be there
I’ll be there too, looking forward to it.
Should we all wear pink or something so we know who to look for?
I’ll wear my janus films shirt.
It was nice meeting everyone! We’ll certainly have to do this again.
hey sexy people, good to meet you all. We should find a day thats good for everyone for the tokyo story/rules of the game double feature.
It was awesome finally meeting all you fine fellow Vancouverites. I’m up for the Ozu/Renoir double feature.
I’m jealous. I need to try to find some Honoluluites who are on theauteurs.com. I can’t get anyone to go to film society screenings, last time Frederick Wiseman was there himself, and they showed Titicut Follies, I was maybe one of 5 people under the age of 60. Can I join you sexy people when I make my periodic Rastafarian :P pilgrimage to Vancouver?
Ah, this is pretty cool. I was in Victoria recently, and have been wanting to visit Vancouver. I’d love to move there for a few years. Canada is so beautiful!!
Good times meeting everyone! It was startlingly comfortable for my first internet meet up, and Rashomon was fantastic on the big screen. Can’t wait for OZU V.S. RENOIR.
I’d never done the whole ‘internet meet’ thing so that worked out. Turns out you all seem to be fully functional human beings. Great stuff.
And Ozu/Renoir wise I can work it in any day other than the tenth.
Hi friends. Glad we were all able to meet up. It’ll happen again soon I’m sure.
Because of the amount of work I have to do to finish off this school semester, it looks like I might have to miss the Ozu/Renoir double. I didn’t realize it was approaching so fast. This sucks because I love “Tokyo Story”. I love it passionately. I love it like Alvy loved Annie. I “luff” it.
But even if I miss out this time, the Cinematheque has some gems coming soon. “Dr. Strangelove” is another of my favourites, and I’d be interested in seeing “Revanche” again.
Maybe they’ll screen a certain Woody Allen film. ;o
… and we can be a sweet sidewalk gang again, terrorizing pedestrians. I am so into it.

I don’t remember where I saw this posted but I remember someone saying that Seven Samurai was going to be shown in theaters and I thought it was in Vancouver.
When, if at all?
