that scene is from tokyo-ga the wim wenders movie that is on the late spring criterion.

don’t forget about Thomas Pynchon ;)
@Dimitris: Pynchon?! Isn’t he (gasp!) … an American? Do the U.S. and France have the monopoly on mystery men? What kind of cultural myopia would cause you to choose a Westerner as the MOST mysterious male on the planet - even if you put a smiley face at the end? :)
Are there no Greek or African or Asian mystery men? If not, has the U.S. mysteriously appropriated the mystique of mystery, perhaps through genetic engineering, outright patent infringement, or its occupation of a mysterious nation?
By the way, wasn’t Dionysus (Διόνυσος) the god of mysteries, as well as wine and theater? Doesn’t he count?
Just teasing … :-) :-0 ;-)
“By the way, wasn’t Dionysus (Διόνυσος) the god of mysteries, as well as wine and theater? Doesn’t he count?”
i thought we were talking about mortals :P
“Are there no Greek or African or Asian mystery men?”
i thought high-class, well-respected, extremely educated P.H.D. folks like you didn’t need my help to recognize those men.
I’m not talking about the Tokyo-Ga scene, I have that on DVD and watch it every morning after I wake up. You can hear Marker say “A cat…..an owl!” very clearly in that scene! And you can see his eye! So exciting!
There was another video though, on youtube, that mysteriously disappeared. It had Marker filming with some shitty camcorder in Berlin or somewhere else, completely oblivious that someone else was filming him. He looked pretty focused on what ever he was filming.
The guy who posted the video on YouTube was named Kai Zimmer. It was fascinating to watch.

There used to be a video somewhere on youtube, it was about 10 seconds of silent video showing Chris Marker filming something at some sort of event in a city using a camcorder. I looked for it recently, and it seems to have disappeared.
Anyone have a link to it? I plan on watching it nonstop for 10 hours.
