Never heard of it but, holy shit, it’s like they turned the film into a theme park!
That’s very strange. I wonder if you get your penis cut at the end.
Anyone ever heard of copyright?
I don’t even want to look at this link.
I did a little digging (a 30 second google search) and it seems to be a 24-hour long “performance piece”. Here’s a review I found at the IMDB:
“We have here in Denmark a performance group named SIGNA, and they made a live action performance production inspired by this movie..
I went to see it, and it is absolutly horrifying.. These people are REALLY connected to their character and what that character go through..
It’s a performance play that goes on 24 hours a day for 1 week at a time in 4 different circles named “The Circle Of Mania”, "The Circle Of beep “The Circle Of Tears” and “The Circle Of Blood”..
I went there when it was “The Circle Of Tears” and this is my experience:
We where 2 guys and 1 girl who wanted to check this play out so we got tickets online and went out to the house wich is located in Copenhagen.
We found it and stood in line infront of the creepy house while we heard piano music through the walls of the house. The windows where covered and the house looks very creepy.
Suddenly the door opens and a guard comes out and shows us 4 fingers and we go in with 1 other person. The guard doesn’t talk at all but shows us a sign which tells us that photographs/videos aren’t allowed and we should open our jackets and bags. He starts searching for things on our body wich was kinda weird.
After that we got into the lobby where a maid sat. You could just smell the rotten aroma of the house, wich made you feel uncomfortable. We had to sign members card wich gave us lifetime membership so we could come back to the villa anytime we want for 2 pounds.
Alright then we had to go through an introduction with a madam in a room with survailance of the different rooms in the house.
She told us about the hiarachi and what its all about, let me tell it short:
The story is that it’s a whorehouse which 4 masters took over to celebrate their libertinage (something like that, wich means that they can do whatever they want).
After they took over the house, the people in it got divided into different hierachi’s of power.
From top:
The 4 Masters: The Duke, The Magistrate, The Bishop and The President.
*The 4 Madams
*The 6 *beep
*The 7 Maids
*The 12 Children
In that introduction the guests (wich is us) get put into different groups of the hierachi. I became a guest of the children (lowest rank), my friends became guests of the maids and the masters.
After that I child came to get me and some of the other guests in the same rank to take us to the childrens sleeping hall. We sat in a tiny room with some other children just talking about all kinda stuff. And they play the roles SOOOOOOOOOO perfect, you really feel like you are in that world.
Well to skip a ton of stuff I started to walk around the house, found my friends and walked around with them.
We went into a masters bedroom cause he had just woken up and talked to some guests. So we sat down and started to listen and suddenly one of the children comes in and tells the master that she saw one of the other children masturbate (wich is against the rules), so the beep find that girl and brings her into him.
he just starts whipping, strangling, cutting off her hair and stuffs it down her throat and then rapes her, RIGHT INFRONT OF OUR EYES!
It was ABSOLUTELY horrifying, my friend started to get tears in her eyes cause it was so realistic. We left the room and went around to see other stuff. Of course a lot of other things happened in the house, for instant I saw one of the masters eating lunch while a child was sitting on the table with her ass up his face so he would be satisfied. The children got hunted around naked in the snowy garden while the masters shoot after them.
You even get offered food and drinks in there, and some people get to sleep over aswell. The maids made me was dishes cause I was a rank under them.. IT WAS AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE. I could keep going hehe.
The whole thing is just an amazing experience, we ended up spending 4 hours in that creepy house, and I’m going back on tuesday to see more.
The whole basic thing about the play is that you really start to get confused if it is real or fiction..
If any of you get the chance to go see it before it ends the 14th of march, you deffinetly should (and you are only allowed to speak english and german in the house, so everybody should understand it).
Check out their website at www.villa-salo.dk :) IT’S A MUST SEE!!!"
Wow.
Granted there’s no way the performers and directors of production can didactically control your experience of symmetry as wholly as Pasolini does in the framed image, but…
this sounds like a much more complete realization of the theory behind Pasolini’s complicity-via-aesthetics experiment in that, if you are deeply offended by what is presented to you, you can actually yell and scream and hit and try to stop it and try to break the performers out of character or break the audience out of their own mass complicity, etc…the possibilities are endless.
With the movie remaining a closed work as it is (like history, I suppose, if Pasolini’s choice of setting it to a recording/reproducing media was decided by that analog), all you can do is turn it off and walk away (or at best, stand and scream in the audience or break into the projection booth, etc), so Pasolini’s idea that we become complicit in the atrocity on-screen ends up being paper-thin. If you stay to the end to see the film through and get all the details about it necessary to make an informed decision about it, you’re already complicit….?
EDIT: where are the Viennese Actionists when you need them?

Anyone heard about this place?

From the sounds of it, it’s an “Agatha Christie murder mystery holiday” type experience, but for Pasolini’s film. There’s a cast list on the site, as well as a set of rules (including ’don’t have sex with the children’), so I’m not sure if it’s as interactive, but it’s certainly an interesting idea. At first, I thought it was an elaborate hoax, but then I thought the same of Anish Kapoor’s £19.1million Olympic tower…
