Vincent Moon Videos in Garage Soundtracks.

I notice a light hum of joy breed inside me whenever I see things that are ever so slightly out of context. Such is the case with Vincent Moon’s music videos, many of which are featured here:

From Andrew Bird wandering, lonely through the streets of Paris whistling all by himself, to Sigur Ros playing an intimate performance in a coffee shop frequented by the elderly. There is a sense that, though they are minor social infractions, they are there nonetheless. The musicians performance is impromptu, not what one would expect in many instances…. and in not what one expects, lies the beauty.

Being a fan of stuff being done in one take i personally gravitate to this piece for its creativity in how he creates the music with the camera and an impromptu performance that is short and sweet.

It’s such a simple idea, really, his Takeaway Shots, that I’m surprised we’ve not seen until now. Regardless, it’s an idea that works. It’s fresh and spontaneous and another way to view musicians that one follows, without the visual armor of the typical music video presentation.

These videos are a testament to the history of music, its changes and its ability to stay with human beings and grow in every inch of the world. Mr. Moon, shooting in various parts of the world, shows that, no matter where his camera is, he is able to create something magical. This is, by no small chance, shown in the videos themselves. Mr. Moon and his subjects acknowledge an unwritten communion between artists. Together they manipulate the serene topography that is their art in often times profoundly subtle ways. This art, this music, this hope cannot die.

http://www.theauteurs.com/garage/projects/4/films/135 is the case.

The question is….what do we do now, I suppose.

Quite enjoyed the Fleet Foxes one.

Would love to see Moon document one of Sonic Youth’s 40+ minute free-form noise jams.

That would be cool, but Sonic Youth get more than enough coverage, don’t they? How ‘bout giving Lightning Bolt some attention? Or Noxagt? That’s a freak out.
