I love the Duplass brothers, thought Baghead to be one of the most creative “horror” films in decades, but HATE Jonah Hil, I cannot in good conscience pay to see it, maybe I will get a copy from the flea market, so I can see it without suporting Jonah Hill.
I will check it out and I will also see The Love Ranch

I watched CYRUS last night. Any thoughts?
Here are mine: John C. Reilly and Jonah Hill seemed to be perfect Duplass muses; however, Marisa Tomei seemed like a fish-out-of-water. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of hers, but the movie, it’s style, it’s approach simply did not seem to gel with her. Plus, her character remained reactive to the shenanigans of the two men. In other words, she was stuck in the background (not a surprise for a female role, actually). She wasn’t even given a “moment” of inspiration or awakening. Rather, she was reprimanded in public….
Stylistically, the Duplass Bros did their thing; however, it seemed a bit tamed, restricted. I wonder what it was like for them working on a Hollywood set with the Ridley’s as executive producers! Imagine that. Going from your parents as executive producers (The Puffy Chair) to Ridley and Tony Scott! I’d love to know more about their overall working relationship.
Overall, I highly recommend the film and the humor is not forced or eccentric. And the deeper life-stuff is just enough without getting overly sentimentalized.
