Robert W Peabody III

WHY?

follow the money … Park’s oeuvre will become wildly popular too!

Vocalities

Hm, not sure why the link wouldn’t work.

As for the money…eh, it also has to do with the fact that releasing it here wouldn’t be good enough because the average movie goer won’t read subtitles and can’t watch movies that don’t explain every little tiny action on screen.

It’s sad. I hate it.

remakes dont diminish the quality of the originals if anything they usually enhance it

Mike Volpe

ive actually just noticed that being extremely prevalent. i got my ghetto ass friend to watch La Haine and he loved it but when i gave him Brick, and Sid & Nancy, he was actually confused by the endings of both of them. I found them unbelievably simple to understand. People just dont get ambiguity

Den: If anything I think remakes are disrespectful to the original for they take the directors original vision and skew it to a hollywood-ized vision that is distinctly different.

Gringo Tex

WHY?

Because the original is so bad. I’m all for remaking bad films to improve them.

Finally Hollywood gets it right.

I have to speak up for Park here – there is nothing better for an artist than to have an older original work mass produced – it will bring a huge new audience for work he has long since “let go of”.

I understand the purist point of view expressed here, but think about the artist in this case and you might understand how this is a good thing.

How much did he net on this film – anyone know?

KJ

WW b.o. gross $1954937. I don’t think it will result in much of a bump to Park, Robert. It’s headed for the multiplex zone. Something to do while eating junk food. How many new converts has Haneke enjoyed after Funny Games II: Assault On The Hamptons?

Funny Games II: Assault on The Hamptons

haha I missed that one….

Dunno, but that gross suggests he didn’t make much – what he is hoping for is that a producer will fund his next film.

Since we’re talking moolah, how’s this for shits and grins- Limits Of Control worldwide: $1,446,950. Dude has never covered the spread, yet he keeps on truckin’. How does he do it?

“I understand the purist point of view expressed here, but think about the artist in this case and you might understand how this is a good thing.”

hey all, let’s re-edit and re-make Hypothesis of the Stolen Painting, Night of Counting the Years, When the Tenth Month Comes and Travelling Players for the fuckin’ mainstream audiences to watch them!!!
oh yeah, definitely a brilliant idea!!!

KJ

But there is no twisted violence or incest in those films, Dimitris!!!

Dim: call the dir and ask how he/she feels about that…lol

KJ: that’s pathetic – is that up-to-date info or for what period of time?
does validate fredo’s point that the blockbusters pay the freight

oohhh, yes, i forgot:

remakes = controversial themes = teenage “Americanized” blood-fest = films without any excessive topics are either forgettable or secondary….

hey why try to make something original when you can remake a movie, win oscars(departed) and make money…

but i heard some time ago that they were planning on remakin jsa too…but instead to do it on the korean-border they would make it on the mexican-usa border haha even called joint security america lol

and there were some rumours that charlize theron would starr in a lady vengeance remake

but both projects seem to be dead now
i hope that the same will happen to sympathy for mr vengeance
