isn’t Fritz the Cat in criterion?
If you are really into criterion you should get that, its good.
Fritz the Cat isn’t the type of movie Criterion would pick up.
I know that is the problem
but I heard they picked up an R. Crumb film, must have been Crumb
There have been a couple of discussions about this already in other threads.
Criterion released AKIRA on laserdisc but nothing yet on DVD or Blu, I would love if they would dip their toe into animation and I wouldnt be surprised if FANTASTIC MR FOX was their first, but Im not holding my breath.
Would he also be one of the only filmmakers to have every one of his films featured in the collection?
As far as I know, the only director to have all of his films on Criterion is Charles Laughton…
Both Wes Anderson and Whit Stillman have all but one of their films in the collection.
Granted, all three directors have made a combined total of 10 films.
Charles Laughton only made one film, RUS.
@ Dennis B
By the way Crumb had nothing to do with the movie of Fritz the Cat and he hated the film.
I have my doubts that Fantastic will be on Criterion, and Fox has released it on Blu-ray. As for the first animated title to be released, I’d rather see some actual early animation like The Adventures of Prince Achmed, The New Gulliver, Princess Iron Fan, or even the Fleischers’ Gulliver’s Travels.
Once again – even though I think this “issue” isn’t terribly important – I will reaffirm that they put out Akira on laserdisc.
Quite true:
. . . on DVD . . .
…
Who cares?

“Charles Laughton only made one film, RUS.”
What gave it away, Brady?

Having just seen his last picture “FANTASTIC MR. FOX” on television last night…
And, knowing how much Criterion LOVES Wes’ works…
It just dawned on me…
If Criterion does eventually put out their own version of the film on a special-edition Blu-ray (which, let’s face it, why wouldn’t they at this point?)…
It would be the FIRST and ONLY…ANIMATED…film in the collection…
Over 500 films and this would be the FIRST…
