Most Anticipated Films

what upcoming films are you looking forward to?

Looking forward in 2010: People who are able to use the function. (I know it won’t happen)

I could care less about Jodorowsky, but I didn’t know that PT Anderson was working on a Scientology film. Sounds very interesting, as with There Will Be Blood he finally came into his own as a filmmaker. I doubt it will be out by 2010 though.

Anyways, here is what I most anticipate, in this order.

1. Abel Ferrara’s Jekyll and Hyde
2. Jean-Luc Godard’s Socialisme
3. Manoel de Oliveria’s The Strange Case of Angelica
4. Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life
5. Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island

Here’s what Jodorowsky had to say about King Shot in a recent interview with the Guardian.

’ "So with some excitement, here’s Jodorowsky on the line to tell us about it: “It’s not happening. They didn’t find the money,” he says in his thick South American accent.

Oh. “But, I am making another movie instead! I have signed the contract already with some Russian producers. I will do Son Of El Topo – a sequel. It’s a conflict between two brothers who need to come to a solution. I am about to start four months of preparation. I can tell you nothing today.” ’

It’s frustrating being a fan of Jodorowsky as his projects always seem to fall through at the last minute.

Taken from boxofficemojo.com release schedule. These are movie I will pay to see in a theater picked the films that will open where I live since I live in a town with one multiplex and one art theater that only shows classic films (not complaining I love classic films). I would give up nearly all these movies for Godard’s Socialisme and De Oliveria’s Eccentricites of a Blonde Haired Girl for which I will have to wait til dvd

Jan

Extraordinary Measures: Harrison Ford in a supporting role, hopefully a film that will cause people to donate money for research for the terrible Pompe disease. I have moderate hopes for this since I think Harrison can be quite the actor and I like medical dramas.

Feb

Valentine’s Day: Garry Marshall makes me cringe but the cast for this is insane. I think (like Exit to Eden) this is be a so bad it is good comedy. Plus Taylor Swift is hot!

Cop Out: Kevin Smith a director known only for his writing is directing someone elses script. I want to see how bad this one turns out.

March

Brooklyn’s Finest: Richard Gere has become a better actor with age. He has mixes questionable box office material (Chicago, Nights in Rhodnathe) with small films that turn out fine (The Hunting Party, The Hoax, Im Not There). His track record in the past ten years is good and I have high hopes for this one.

Remember Me: Can Pattinson act? I could find out here. Besides, seeing romantic dramas starring Robert Pattinson with my gf= always a good idea. Not so much for the movie but for what happens after.

Season of the Witch: Nick Cage and Ron Perelman in a middle ages horror film, lets hope it has music by goblin.

April

Furry Vengeance: A silly kids movie, I don’t mind taking my nephew to; sure it looks dumb but it stars brooke shields and dick van dyke (!!)

Wall Street 2: I will see anything Oliver Stone and tho I didn’t care much for the first, the topic is as relevant as hell and I am hopeful.

Nothing in May so far (tho I am sure things will be booked or shifted before then that I would see)

June

Marmaduke: Again I get to see something with my nephew and I grew up with this comic strip so curious to see how bad they trash it.

July

The Last Airbender: I have seen this cartoon (which was caled avatar) and I want to see how M Night does with someone elses material since he has screwed up his own for a while now.

Morning Glory: Harrison Ford and Diane Keaton as bickering morning hosts. It could be Ford’s first good comedy since Working Girl.

You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger: Woody Allen, nuff said.

August

The Expendables: Stallone is on a roll with Rocky and Rambo. I think he can do it with new material too; besides this one stars: Mickey Rourke, Eric Roberts, Stallone, Jet Li, Dolph Lungren, and Jason Statham

After this, the release dates are very sketchy: I would add Sophia Copolla’s new picture and Spike Lee’s, anything by Argento (asia or dario) and the new John Carpenter. And of course Tree of Life

Shutter Island looks terrible IMO. I wish Scorsese would stop making Hollywood films and do a Coppola already. Even if it fails, at least he will be challenging himself.

in theory i’m looking forward to the new Godard, but i doubt i’ll get a chance to see it, so i’ll have to go with Malick’s ‘Trees Of Life’ and possibly Ferrara’s movie too. But 50 is in it, so expectations are not high.

Dennis Brian

oh I didn’t know Ferrara had a new one add that to the list

scorsese needs to just stick to documentaries as punishment for his dicaprio phase (and because he is best at them). I would not watch shutter island if u paid me

Joks

^^Ferrara should have two films out this year. Napoli Napoli hasn’t been released yet either to my knowledge.

Dennis Brian

i dont mind 50; he did fine in his first film
and u cant blame anyone except the director and pacino for righteous kill
