Presentation: to present an image, or to realistically or reliably show a visual truth of a subject matter, and to color that truth with shades of meaning.
Representation: To represent an image in order to obtain an emotional, or intellectual reponse

What films have you scene other than Un Chien andalou – I have an idea what you are asking, but I haven’t seen Un Chien andalou for years and it isn’t as fresh in my mind as recent films I’ve seen.
It´s only 15 minutes long and has been uploaded on youtube, Robert.
This is a fairly simple assignment. You have the definitions in front of you, and the film is literally filled end-to-end with examples.
“Un Chien andalou” is a mixture of presentation and representation. The initial cut of the eye can be regarded as both a Freudian castration device as described in his analysis of dreams as well as an image representation included for the shock effect. It´s combined with the shot of a cloud-capped moon which is both a representation included to achieve an intellectual response due to its metaphorical subcontext as well as a presentation device citing the first poem of Andalusian (!) writer Federico García Lorca´s “Romancero gitano”.

Nitrate, I have many more questions than 4 on my homework, these were just the only ones I looked everywhere for and couldn’t figure out. I figured I would ask for help from someone that does know, rather than agonize over it.

Nitrate is certainly right. It would be more considerate to not only expect others to contribute and answer your homework questions, but also contribute to the forum yourself. There would be more helpful responses if you did so.
