What are examples of sound continuity and sound montage in La Jetee?

I have been looking up examples of sound continuity and sound montage for La Jetee, but I’m not sure any of the mare accurate. Can anyone give me an example?

Look at the entire sequence running from around 3:40 to the point where we are taken into the death camp, and the heartbeat pulse begins. Listen to the mix of music, voiceover and pulse. There’s both continuity and montage there.

Ok, I want to make sure I’m getting this right. Is the Sound continuity the fact that the music and voiceover are continuously the same in volume and other aspects throughout the whole scene? Is the sound montage the fact that the music and voiceover are separate from the events happening in the pictures? Forgive me If I got that completely wrong.

continuity in sound doesnt have to do with volume. it has to do with whether the sound effects form a continuous narrative whole, and if they match up with the flow of images. sound discontinuity would be the opposite.

sound montage is sound editing. the process of cutting sound, in the same way that images are cut. the word “montage” sometimes implies an elaborately-edited sequence, as far as a rapid flow of images and sounds that stand in contrast to the general rhythm of the overall film.

sound montage can have continuity or discontinuity.

Is Lacey asking us to do her homework again? She tried this on another post and everyone figured out what was up.

Lacey, I think you’d get more cooperation if you stated at the outset that these are homework questions, or writing assignments for a course you’re taking.

I’m a film professor and I would welcome a student coming in and asking for clarification and review of the lessons. Your own professor should also welcome such a session.

I didn’t think I had to specify why I was asking. I never denied that it was homework, which it is. I asked my professor, but the best he did was give me page numbers in the book. I read everything he told me to and I either didn’t understand the concepts completely or couldn’t find the answer, (and believe me I looked). I answered most of the questions, these are just the few I couldn’t figure out, and not for a lack of trying. I didn’t think there was anything wrong with asking for help someplace else. If you don’t want to answer my question and think it’s a waste of time, then don’t answer it. I would have thought, a professor of all people would be more than happy to answer a student’s film question, or at least put me on the right track so that I could figure it out for myself. I’m not trying to cheat or trick you into doing my work for me, I’m just thoroughly confused.

I do appreciate anyone who did help answer to the best of their ability, it helped tremendously.

You’re trying to get other people to do your homework for you; and you admit this. And then you take people to task for being annoyed by this? Maybe – just maybe – these people are offended because they actually did their own thinking and research, through their college studies. If you watched La jetée one or two times, and didn’t understand it in relation to the homework question, simply go back and watch it again.

Not sure what the difference is between a book, google, or asking someone – it’s just homework – not a test and she did watch the films, right? This is a territorial crew – Frank probably has an academic APB out for anyone answering to the name Lacy …lol

Thanks Robert, I’m glad to know not everyone here has a problem with me …. I was starting to feel unwelcome(total understatement)
and yes, I did watch the films. Also, Lacey isn’t my real name, and right about now I’m really glad that I gave a fake one… phew

Quentin, the film is actually quite interesting. If you’ve seen 12 monkeys, that was a remake of it.

I’m with Robert here. It’s not such a bad thing to seek out answers on this site. However, you might do yourself a favor and try to disguise it a bit more. Just make a thread about La Jetee, and in your opening post you can try to indicate what types of questions or interests you might have in the film. You will generally get a slew of answers from a number of people, and you’ll find it helpful. You’ll also avoid all the useless posts that knock you for trying to find some answers here. And you may want to open a new account, because you’ve already got a rep around here as the homework person.

Having said all of that, I’ve only seen La Jetee once, and it was a while ago, so I can’t help you with this.
