I like The Holy Mountain. Now you.

He’s a brilliant madman.

Sad to hear King Shot is cancelled, but good to hear Abel Cain (the El Topo sequel) is in production and completely funded.

A talented visualist who is too chained to dopey mysticism. Herzog seems to have about the same talents and intellectual resources but he managed to strike genius while Jodorowsky is delegated to being merely distinctive in my film.

He’s good, but I prefer Moctezuma and Arrabal out of the Panic Movement filmmakers.

Only seen Santa Sangre so far, but I loved it – Psycho made by a madman.

I think he is wonderful in his willfullness and an excellent example of a truly independent filmmaker.
“Santa Sangre” is grotesque, beautiful, infuriating and unforgettable. J’s humanity shines through powerfully.

A (long) documentary should be made about him while he is still alive. He is apparently involved in so many different things.

perfer santa sangre to holy mountain or el topo

I prefer Santa Sangre too. I like him but sometimes I think the ‘cult of Jodorowsky’ tends to overate him. El Topo and The Holy Mountain were also very much products of their time. It’s a shame that he’s done such little work because he’s an interest character.

The guy is pretty far off his rocker, and for that I commend him.

However, I feel his films have lost their enigmatic qualities over the years. His lack of psychedelic longevity would be best compared to the music of the Doors, in my opinion.

I wish his mysticism could have a better presentation, for his storytelling abilities are completely banal. That’s not to say I expect a coherent narrative from him, but the way he structures films like El Topo and The Holy Mountain is under influences of the episodic. Both films became very exhausting for me to watch after initial fascination, cause despite his visual virtuousity, the structure tends to be entirely predictable.
