Lucrecia Martel retrospective.
Happy-go-lucky.
I liked the dialogues.
Kon Ichikawa clips on youtube – goodbye, hello ten dark women and odd obsession.
Moon – I liked it a lot. 9/10
Rumble Fish – picked up the double disc DVD for a quid and it turns out it’s it’s a really good, very ’eighties, movie
Rumplesink – I’m glad you liked Moon! More people need to see this movie.
….including me.
a russian movie called “war” (for the second time). great film.
Yes, that was a not so subtle hint to you Drew! :)
Citizen Ruth. I like Alexander Payne.
I beg my mom, my dad, and my sister almost everyday. Its not my fault!
My Night at Maud’s, which was a bit different than I expected, as in the notion that it had a lot more going on in it than it might seem at first glance. I’m not going to lie, though, those conversations were sometimes very difficult to comprehend at 1:30 in the morning.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which was, without a doubt, a far superior film than The Order of the Phoenix.
Savvy
Drew – Tell your dad that he will love it!
Haha, how would you know?
Cause it’s a great movie, especially for guys! And you’re dad is educated, so he’ll know what’s up.
My mom just said “None of us want to watch one guy float around in space for four hours.”
Hmmm she is annoyingly wrong.
Okay, I don’t know about this, but Moon is supposed to be playing wide right now, but it doesn’t seem to be playing anywhere near the Dallas / Fort Worth area, which is beginning to piss me off. How am I supposed to see this masterpiece if it’s nowhere around?
Okay, so I am completely wrong! I just checked out fandango, and, apparently, it must have started playing around here on Friday! OH happy day! I should be seeing this tonight!
Savvy
But it’s short! It’s only 97 minutes! Even if it sucks, it doesn’t suck for very long. haha
What can I say? My mom only likes seeing crappy romantic comedies, and then she bitches about how they were bad. Its like uh ya it sucked it starred Sandra Bullock for Gods sake!
You really need to find a grandpa or uncle to take you to movies. This is how I saw most movies when I was younger. I rarely saw movies with my parents.
Which is weird because now they like good movies and they’re constantly asking me what films they should go see.
Mamma Roma
The Proposition – Wow, what a movie! I missed this when it came out in the theater and I regret it. Very well made film. Can’t wait to see what Hillcoat does with “The Road.”
The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum – Tremendous indictment on personal freedom and government power. More relevant now than ever before. I need to buy this Criterion release immediately. Volker does it again! Highly recommend this movie.
Meet Me in St. Louis (1944)
RUS – Meet me in St. Louis is a-maz-ing. Damn if that isn’t one of the happiest movies ever made.
1/2 of Wise Blood is what I watched today. I was really looking forward to this one. John Huston is a pretty good director, and the subject matter interested me. So far it’s horrible. I’m going to have to finish it tomorrow, but I can’t say I’m looking forward to the last 45 minutes.
I wouldn’t call it the one of the happiest movies ever made. The story itself and especially the lighting are very melancholy. It’s an interesting convergence between a Minnelli film (there’s always an undercurrent of cynicism in his films (think about how Tootie’s anger and Esther’s inherent sadness (whether it was intended or not, Garland certainly put it there) undercut the superficial nostalgia in which the film is set)) and the gloss and lightness of a Freed unit picture (I was about to say frivolity, but Freed’s musicals from Meet Me in St. Louis on, whether intentionally or not, worked to remove frivolity completely from American musicals, a real loss).
I will say that Meet Me in St. Louis, more than any other film in color, has the best lighting (I defy anyone to come up with 10 films in color that have lighting of the highest caliber (aside from this and Barry Lyndon, I struggle a bit myself)).
children of men :) , titan ae ,and shopaholic :S
‘Les Miserables’ and ‘Go’(Doug Liman). Now watching ‘Once Upon A Time In America’.Really long.
Resident Evil Extinction…why o why did I even bother.
