Dear Vasselin
I believe that story line plays a very important role in differentiating between a good movie and a bollywood style garbage. To support this I would take “Buddha collapsed out of Shame: 2007” as an example. Which was made by Hana Makhmalbaf at the age of 19 with almost no directorial experience. If you happen to watch the movie you will notice that the story line deals with common day problems of Afghanistan related to civil society “where a 6year old Afghan girl is inspired to go to school by her neighbor’s recitation of his classwork. She deals with bully’s playing a game called Taliban-vs-Ameriki (American) and wanted to stone her to death for studying as studying is Haram according to Taliban. However in pursuit of education she bought an expensive (relatively) notebook and didnt had enough money for Pencil to write, rather used lipstick for writing. Which according to Taliban was her second sin. So she had to die (figuratively) to get rid of Taliban bully boys….etc”
An amazing story line, with almost no special effects. As for acting, I don’t think children of such age working in that movie could even be termed as acting. It was rather a marvelous piece of natural / real performance.
In that matter “Buddha Collapsed out of shame” has (a) Good Story line (b) No special effect © Less Directorial Experience (d) Acting – No comments and the result is a world class movie…
Bit similar examples supporting above mentioned
(a) Taare Zameen Par
(b) Children of Heaven
© Color of Paradise
(d) The White balloon
It is a must watch list :-)) before we discuss further :-)

The great movies make the best balance between storyline, directing and acting – ‘The Godfather’ is an example – unforgettable storyline, even if a bit too long family saga, unforgetable Copola, unforgetable Pacino – I will never forget his face expression before going to the toilet to take the gun and kill the other mafioso and the policeman in the cafe
