In 31 years I don’t think I’ve been able to sell anybody on The Fury (1978), but it is MY Citizen Kane.
I feel like I’ve been on this kind of thread a hundred times.
Deja Vu
Well, lots of my friends aren’t big film buffs (one had I Love You, Man in his top 5), so most of the films I like, they do not.
Me, Myself & Irene.
the only Farrelly film I have truly liked.
Fortunately that film doesn’t exist, as I have many passionate cinephiles as friends. :-)
nearly all the art-house films i watch,i rarely have friends with a cinematic syndrome….
I find it hard to sell any Todd Solondz film to most people, if you seen any of his films you’ll know why.
Satyricon (even Pauline Kael derided it)
Some of my friends say they don’t “get” Annie Hall but I’m not really sure what’s not to “get”.
Ummmmm… all of them. My friends are stupid, and just look at me with a blank face any time I talk about film.
L’atalante.
Although I have close to 0 cinephile friends, outside of the internet that is.
Bresson.

@ Cinéma année zéro, that’s very nice of you.
I don’t talk about films with people usually in real life. There’s no one really that I can talk about films with, so I’d never know which films my friends don’t get.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
I don’t think I’ve had a hard time selling anybody on movies, mostly because I don’t spend much time trying to do it. For friends who aren’t really into movies, I usually wait for them to take interest on their own, and I find that people are more receptive when they come into things in that way.
That said, I think it might be pretty difficult to try and sell somebody on early John Waters movies, say “Polyester” or earlier.
Ishtar.
It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
Joe Dante’s Matinee
F For Fake
Unbreakable
The Hudsucker Proxy
Some people are still upset that I recommended they see THE TENANT, a movie I absolutely loved when it came out.
I had to cross a picket line of people I knew to see Friedkin’s CRUISING.
Also, I dragged a friend to a cinematheque screening of Tsai Ming-Liang’s VIVE L’AMOUR. Alas, he didn’t share my enthusiasm for this film.
“Cinéma année zéro, that’s very nice of you.”
Hey, who’s dumber, the idiot, or the guy who spends his whole day with the idiot? I waste days around stupid people all day, what’s that say about me?
Oilgun – Who couldn’t love Vive L’Amour? It’s madness I tells ya! MADNESS!!!
live forever
I’ve ton of films i love which my Friends hate for example Hunger or Bronson too arty for them even though the subects they are interested in but not the way it was told but i loved the films for that.
