What films do you want to see on BLU Ray the most?

BobbyMiller

Hey guys,

Was wondering what was upcoming for Criterion’s blu ray releases and what you guys were either looking forward to or are hoping will come out on Blu Ray this year.

I doubt we’ll see it any time soon, but I’d kill to upgrade my 3 disc Brazil set in Blu.

Further, what type of films do you think would benefit the most from the bump in resolution?

PS. Just saw the Baraka Blu Ray…The image quality was amazing.

the more films they put out on blu-ray the better. they look amazing.
while not a criterion release, I’d be happy to see Luc Besson’s Angel-A on blu-ray disc. The movie is gorgeous.

I’ve only watched one Blu Ray film on a real HD television – that was High Fidelity, it was amazing.

Planet Earth-I imagine would be a killer experience!

i’m a little iffy on blu-ray. to me, it just looked like a conversion from film to digital video. at least for the newer films. for films like “the third man”, i didnt see that much to get excited about. there was still film grain and everything (which is good). nothing different form the last dvd release.

fear and loathing in las vegas. With its bright but extremely dark cinematography and ultra saturated colours it would be a perfect fit for a blu-ray release.

I think animation benefits dramatically…I’d love to see anything by Bakshi, as long as some good source materials could be used.

@Jake-There Will Be Blood is out on blu ray. It looks great
@Robert-Third Man looks good in blu ray. The grain is in the film source and it’s always going to be there.
I would like to see more westerns in blu ray-Anthony Mann esp.

@Brad Amelie is a great choice.
Also add Pierrot, Le Fou, Contempt,Fanny and Alexander, 81/2, 2001, In the mood for Love, Apocalypse Now.
I have seen Chungking Express, Godfather, Jesse James, a few others and to say the least, it was a was a visual treat.
Someday when Criterion upgrades everything to Blu-Ray, I wish they have some kind of crazy exchange offers so I can get rid of the DVD’s..

DAYS OF HEAVEN and THE SORCERER. Two movies with astonishingly rich visuals. Is there even widescreen home video release of The Sorcerer? Overlooked and long overdue.

fear and loathing in las vegas is on blu-ray, according to amazon.com.

Apparently also bernardo bertolucci’s The Dreamers is on it’s way to blu-ray, but im wondering if it’s going to be the R or NC-17 version.

I’m an avid Blu-Ray fan but only if studios use the right codecs and sources. A lot of blu-rays are done so poorly. It really is a smart move to find disc reviews on various sites before buying things on release day. I’ve learned to be patient on Blu releases.

Would like to see the following on Blu-Ray
1. Videodrome
2. HITCHCOCK
3. City of Lost Children
4. Barry Lyndon
5. Citizen Kane
6. Amelie
7. Naked Lunch
8. Seven Samurai
9. Rashomon
10. Band of Outsiders
11. Down By Law
12. The Ice Storm
13. Rules of the Game
14. Brazil
15. 12 Monkeys
16. Original Star Wars (probably be another 5 years ha)

those are ones off the top of my head. lots of the ones i really want are already in the Blu-Ray pipeline.

Kathia-All of these areavailable on blu ray except North by Northwest which is rumored for the fall. Blade Runner and Children of Men are among the best transfers out there. I haven’t seen The Matrixes on blu ray.

I would love to see a Wes Anderson Collection come to Blu-Ray. I think Life Aquatic and Darjeeling in particular would be fantastic!

Ryan Estabrooks

Yes, I second “Darjeeling Limited”. That desparately NEEDS to be on blu-ray out of all of Wes’s films.
