The Auteurs has allowed me to watch two films that I really wanted to see but could not find anywhere, and it has allowed me to read interesting posts and reviews. Also, I find that on this website, most people have seen lots of the movies that I have seen and take cinema more seriously (unlike in IMDB).
As I am an almost habitual critical writer, The Auteurs has presented me a place to be tl;dr and respond to same without people saying, “Geez, must you be so analytical about EVERYTHING.”
Ironically, it’s also become the one place that I’m most often the one saying, “Geez, must you be so analytical about EVERYTHING?” I think the Auteurs has also benefited me as a place to help me understand that I am, relatively, laid back about cinema. And I do mean that as a good thing, guys, it’s been great.

God, do you have to analyze everything, Polaris?
;)
Made me happy as hell. And I mean that in a good way.
Only on Thursdays.

It is a way to kill time ’til Friday………
At which point the new blockbuster for me to overanalyze but in a laid-back way, everyone else here to overanalyze but in a “this is the end of the Universe and everything good is dying” way, comes out.

Polaris: I presume this blockbuster begins with an ‘A’?
Only this week. What’s coming out next week?
—DiB
Polaris: I haven’t checked lately, I do know Up in the Air comes out the middle of next week.
Next week: Nine, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, It’s Complicated, Sherlock Holmes, Up in the Air, Alvin and the Chipmunks 2.
Savvy
Ooooo, the Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus! I want!
Yeah, Sherlock Holmes has its own “end of cinema as we know it” thread here, right? I seem to recall a thread at least with this movie as it’s topic but I didn’t read it because I’m not interested in this movie positively or negatively, myself.

a place to be tl;dr
What does tl;dr mean?
this site made me remember that movie nerds are just as bad as music and sports nerds; the internet is the only place people get away talking shit and saying nothing without getting spat upon.
Polaris: I feel the same way towards Sherlock Holmes, I just don’t care. I may just devote time to re-read the original stories rather than tear my hair out at the sight of it. ;)
“the internet is the only place people get away talking shit and saying nothing without getting spat upon.”
Um, I think you can talk shit, at least about movies, in most bars and not have to worry about getting spat on. Or maybe i’ve just been lucky so far…
Great site, some folks are savy and sometimes humble…but over all we can talk and express ideas and views that otherwise are hard to find on the web…
I’ve found a first-rate collection of film lovers at all levels of expertise. Many of them would become instant friends, collaborators, co-conspirators if we hooked up. Also, the level of smack-talk that goes on out here is priceless. On occasion, I’ve nearly pissed myself laughing. You’re all crazy. Come on you ravers, you seers of visions, come on you painters, you pipers, you prisoners, and shine!
It’s the best website I’ve come across for finding new films.
It’s an outlet for mindful entertainment while I’m bored in my school’s computer lab.
It’s a good place to ramble marijuana induced thoughts after watching a film.
The people are cool too. Real film fans are hard to come by no matter what city you live in, let alone fans who think about film so much that they spend part of their day discussing it on the internet.
It may one day also serve as a good source for networking when trying to make a film.
First: although I think I am inquisitive when it comes to lesser-known works, my list of fims to see and directors to learn about has been growing steadily since I joined; a big ‘thank you’ for that.
Also, here you can WRITE, in the real sense. There is a handful of contributors here where you know, if you want to post on a subject, you’d better bring something to the table and not just shoot your mouth off, a rare and good thing.
There is an attempt at ‘standards’ here, as much as that word makes some people gasp in horror. You are supposed to know a certain minimum to contribute meaningfully here, and that is as it should be. Without that, “The Auteurs” would be another unfocused, insulting flame-fest about the latest popcorn flicks.
That is what ‘The Auteurs’ has done for me. Thank you for a great forum with great people, one that I look forward to participating in for the forseeable future..
“What does tl;dr mean?”
‘Too long; didn’t read’. I’m referring to basically what Claus Harding says when he says, “Also, here you can WRITE, in the real sense,” immediately above. Here is a place where I can write to the ends of minutia and at least somebody will read it—and then post a response on practically every point. Other sites, you get beyond a certain page length and the conversation is over because people see a block of text and their eyes, and thoughts, go somewhere else.

—it has given me more headaches than any single production or project. it has at points nearly reduced me to tears. it has equally made me laugh so hard I peed myself a little. it has put me on various aeroplanes and sent me across the world in pursuit of new cinematic horizons. it has brought me into contact with like minds, unlike minds, dweebs, fools, inspirers, madpeople, genii and critics.
—and yeah, it has humbled the ego, that part of the psyche that thought it knew a lot about film. still learning.
Connect with Nuri Bilge Ceylan
I feel less freakish that other people knows/watch the same type of movies that I do.
i took 3 courses of film in college. i look back and laugh… some serious schooling going on in here. really cool website.
adios engadget………. you were good to me for a long time, but i feel like we just don’t connect like we used to. i promise i’ll drop by every now and then.. serious i promise.
Vocalities
Made me remember that there are hundreds of movies out there that I’ve never seen that are beautiful and worthwhile.
