“Atlas Shrugged Pt 1 (Paul Johansson) 5/5”

Really, Den?? You never cease to amaze me. You like that crypto-fascist stuff? I thought even the most ardent Randians were turned off by that embarrassing adaptation.

Santino

I just can’t believe Den has never seen Jurassic Park. How the hell did that happen!?

Brad S.

Actually, I was more surprised that Den liked Jurassic Park!

I haven’t seen Jurassic Park since it came out in theaters but don’t the CGI effects look painfully dated by now?

Do you people having film viewing logs or something? I really don’t keep track of the films I see chronologically like that.

Me too, and I’m curious about this, because I thought this was the best part of the film. For me, I thought the balance betweeen cgi and “real” props, etc. really made the film work. Maybe the cgi, itself, looks too fake now, though.

I do. The chronological part is not so crucial, but I like writing down the films I see. It’s essential for helping me remember the films I’ve seen.

I started to keep a record of my viewing in January of ‘10. Helps put some perspective on exactly what I’ve been devoting my viewing time toward. I don’t see the need to specify dates. A month overview with ratings works for me.

Jazz, how about adding your lists to this thread! Ari and Santino too, since you’re three members who’s tastes I respect and would like to see what you’re up to viewing wise.

Yeah, a film log isn’t a bad idea. I used to keep one back in the day. Good idea for a thread.

I think Jurassic Park stands up. In fact, a lot of the special effects in that film look better than some of the films released today.

I keep track of the films I see in the theater (I’ve currently seen 113 new films in the theater this year). I like to know how many new movies I’ve seen in any given year and like Jazz, it helps me remember all the films I’ve seen (which is good when I make my top ten list at the end of the year). I can’t imagine keeping a log of all the films I see though. Stuff I watch on TV or DVD are not important records that I need to keep.

Ari

Jeez, I haven’t seen over 100 films in theaters since I lived in a city with a decent film selection. I think I average about 50 now.

Santino

@ Brad – I could post the films I’ve seen this year but I’ll have to do it when I get home tonight.

My theater viewing list is the most important to me because I honestly don’t see many new movies at home (and I only care about what new movies I watch). If I miss it in the theater, I rarely will rent it. But I’m lucky enough to have access to most theatrical releases because I’m in LA (it’s honestly the only good thing about living in SoCal).

@ Ari – I think it’s time for you to reconsider urban living! Yeah, we got lots of people and even more smog but the movies are great! lol

And btw, I would say approx half of the films I see in theaters I am seeing for free (test screenings, theater hopping, studio screenings, etc.). So it’s not like I’m spending thousands of dollars at the theater (although the other half, where I do have to pay, usually include higher-than-average ticket prices since it’s LA, which averages roughly $15 a ticket).

Brad S.

For me, whether I’ve seen the film at home or in the theater isn’t so relevant, but we’ve all got our particular priorities.

@Brad

OK. I’ll try to post my list later.

(Btw, I noticed you didn’t care for Xala and White Material. Makes me feel a little less alone on those two—although I liked Xala a little more than you did.)

@Ari

I think I average about 50 now.

If you have children, it’ll get less than that, so be grateful. :)

“I think it’s time for you to reconsider urban living!”

Yeah, I feel I’m in cinematic exile… It’s supposedly urban but mostly a cultural wasteland. The places you go for jobs. When I first visited L.A., I thought I would hate it (the idea of it and everything) but the cinema culture there is really phenomenal (plus the restaurants are fantastic).

“If you have children, it’ll get less than that, so be grateful. :)”

I thought you just have to start going to more horrible children’s films…. Getting older, I have deeper appreciation for what my father suffered through in theaters when I was a child.
