4:1 in Gance’s Napoleon, I believe.
Wyler’s Ben-Hur was shot to be shown in 2.76:1. The final reel of Gance’s Napolean was shot in Polyvision (4.00:1 ) which involved three reels of 1.33:1 projected side by side.
Widescreen is for filming snakes and trains
Sleeping beauty and lady and the tramp are 2.55:1, the widest Disney movies (possibly widest animated).
Johnny, which film in your collection is the one with a 2.71:1 ratio?
i don’t remember! good bad and the ugly maybe?
The Good The Bad and The Ugly is a 2:35:1 ratio.
I think some DVDs of Ben-Hur contain a 2.71:1 version of the film.
johnny
i’m just curious because i was organizing my movies the other day and i noticed one with a 2.71:1 ratio which is the widest i’ve ever heard of.
i really like widescreen… it seems like it would be harder to frame a shot at that point though!
