It Happened in Athens
it’s a tragedy i tell you….
although now that i think of it, Ghost Dad was extremely insulting…
I have kids, so I’m subjected to a lot of bullshit, but Alvin and the Chipmunks was especially revolting.
But that was a DVD. I can remember sitting with a date watching Mr. Deeds in theaters and trying to find a blank spot on the screen to focus on to distract myself from the film. Staring into space was more worthwhile (much more so) than watching that piece of crap.
Troll 2 is bad, but I’m considering paying to see it—it’s being shown at midnight here in Dallas and I hear it’s a blast.
Last night, I saw Café Noir – despite referencing Hong Sang Soo, Dostoyevsky, Lacan, Brecht, and being made by a film critic, it managed to become a top competitor for at least worst film of the year. Virtuosity without restraint, 317 minutes long for no reason other than distantiating from the film, I wondered to myself, did this director have any connect or actual care about his content, or is it just about egoic needs to establish oneself as a man of cinema in complete disdain and contempt of the audience? I’ll have to think more about that.
quite anything involving names ranging from Hillary Duff to Reese Witherspoon and from Will Smith ending towards Martin Lawrence (sigh) , that`s been “directed” by someone ranging from Michael Bay up to Chris Columbus ( double sigh) . Just mentioning them and I feel a violent need to puke, excuse me for the moment
omg there are actually people who consider Battle Royale, Children Of Men or
There Will Be Blood a worst movie. I would recommend a cat scan.
my vote gets Don’t Go Near The Park.
Scumdog Millionaire
Try the first fiction feature of documentarist Richard Wolf (under the pseudonym—get this—Ricardo Lobo (cringe!)). A “socially conscious” worked filmed in post-invasion Iraq named after its protagonist, FATIMA. As embarrassingly bad as THE ROOM, and not nearly as funny.
inglorious basterds and frailty are the two worst experiences of my life (and I almost died once)
2046
Camera movement gets so dull and redundant so quickly.
Marinated in this inanely macho stereotypical bad DREARY noir way that you just want to see torn into bits and tossed in lava. alsjlgkdsaklgdjsalkgjdsklagjd. punch in the face.
Oh, and Greenaway’s “The Pillow Book.” Trash trash trash!!!
I don’t know about THE worst film ever made – but here is a list of the worst films I ever saw: (in no particular order)
Witchhouse 2: Blood Coven – This piece of junk makes Withchouse and Witchouse 3 look like masterpieces (first one is sort of funny and 3 has Debbie Rochon in it) not only that; but it is also the worst Blair Witch ripp-off ever made (and that’s quite an achievement) I can’t explain how it cost $120,000 to make this film – which is not much (even by indie standards) but it appears to have been shot using a video camera, there are no real props or FX, no D-list actors and all takes place in one location – they must have had pretty good catering!
Razor (2007) – Greek Director Philippos Halatsis should be hung for this film.
Son of Sam (2009) – So…. what makes this worse than all the other films Ulli Lommel has directed in the past few years? It’s the annoying chanting (Som of Satan, Son of Sam, Son of SAAAAAATAN, son of Sam) that give it that extra kick of crappyness! Ulli Lommel has worked with Fassbinder and he has been directing since nearly 30 years – how can it be that he has not learned one thing about film-making by now?
House of Games – Terrible dialogues, terrible cinematography, terrible (and predictable) twist and Lindsay Crouse gives the single worst female performance in the entire history of Cinema!
Juno – For the record, I saw this at a festival and I hated it before it became a hit and before it won any awards. Perhaps the worst filmed script of all time.
Benny’s Video – a pointless morality wank and painfully boring.
Inglourious Basterds – Tarantula raped history, cinema and the audience with this thing. – Rape is not cool!
Great list Salem, I hate all those films (even tho I love Mamet)
yes, uli is particularly disappointing because he always takes on subjects I am interested in so I feel the need to watch the films even tho i know they will be horrid
“uli is particularly disappointing because he always takes on subjects I am interested in so I feel the need to watch the films even tho i know they will be horrid”
Tenderness of The Wolves looks pretty good so I will give it a chance. Maybe he did make one decent film!
I’m sure Uli knows his films suck but they don’t seem to cost much so I’m sure he turns quite a profit each time.
Sadly most films made on the subject of serial killers are very poor (not just Uli’s)
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer was pretty good.
There have been a series of films lately about Gacy, Bundy and Dahmer that were pretty good.
regarding uli thought Marilyn, My Love was decent
“Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer was pretty good.”
Henry was ok – I would have preferred a film about Henry Lee the liar over Henry Lee the lie. He was quite an interesting character who was treated like a star while he kept confessing to murders he didn’t commit and was treated like crap once they discovered that he was making stuff up.
I liked Dahmer (2002) and Ted Bundy (while not really being a good film) had some moments of great black comedy.
“regarding uli thought Marilyn, My Love was decent”
Never saw Marilyn, My Love. Will check it out.
Synechdoche, New York or the Visioneers.
Is this topic “Worst film ever made” or “My least favorite film that I have to hear other people praise?”
A lot of these posts seem to interpret it as the latter.
Interpreting it as the former:
Hercules (80s version where the gods live on the moon)
Escape From New York
Resident Evil
Super Mario Bros
I Know What You Did Last Summer
Night at the Roxbury
The Waterboy
Of course, that list’s no fun, because it doesn’t spit in anyone’s drink. But those movies are far worse than any of the ones anyone actually likes.
Jirin I think QT’s IB was worse than any of those films or inept films like Epic Movie (which are at least good natured).
I think QT ruins genre pictures and even talented directors can make truly terrible pictures. Kubrick was a great director for instance but Eyes Wide Shut is worse than almost any Adam Sandler (and I am in no way a Sandler fan) picture perhaps because it has such a good pedigree and still comes out lifeless, sexless, suspenseless and out of touch
“A lot of these posts seem to interpret it as the latter.”
I most certainly interpreted it as the former!
In the end of the day it’s all debatable and merely based on personal opinions of what constitutes as “greatness” and “trash”.
For example I hate most Adam Sandler films more than The Waterboy … and believe Carpenter has made worse films than Escape From New York.
I also have to echo Den – “IB was (MUCH) worse than any of those films are inept films like Epic Movie”
Necromentia
I haven’t kept a close eye on what others have said. I have a two way tie on the worst. Braveheart and gladiator. Ew.
Kubrick was a great director for instance but Eyes Wide Shut is worse than almost any Adam Sandler (and I am in no way a Sandler fan) picture perhaps because it has such a good pedigree and still comes out lifeless, sexless, suspenseless and out of touch.
Really Den? I think it might be Kubrick’s best…
Manos : The Hands of Fate
Planet of The Apes 2000
@ Chris Knudsen. Synecdoche, New York really? aw thats a shame. you must care for Charlie Kaufman films.
you must NOT care* hehe
I can think of much much worse than a lot of these.
Blue K, Custodian of the Cinema
maybe Gummo?
can I take a poop in your bathwater?
