NO NO NO.
As long as the music industry can make their won DVDs, there is no need for a CC version of it.
I would rather lie CC to recover more masterpieces from silent era.
The music videos of TOOL
Their videos are truly unlike any other music videos out there. All of which are directed by Adam Jones, with some collaboration with Alex Grey. Both of whom have their very individual art styles.
They have already released their first five music videos on one incredibly expensive and hard to find DVD (a copy of which I own). Their last three were released on individual DVDs. Two of which are over ten minute in length. Each one has a commentary track that explain nothing. The commentaries for Schism and Parable/Parabola played two recorded audio commentaries simultaneously. Their disc for Vicarious even featured a commentary by comedian David Cross, which was funny because he had absolutely no knowledge of the project beforehand.
METALLICA has also released many great music videos.
You could make an individual release out of the music video for ONE, and include the movie Johnny’s Got His Gun (which still hasn’t received a DVD release) as a special feature.
It is also interesting to note that Dogma 95 filmmaker Thomas Vinterberg was the director behind the music video for The Day That Never Comes. It is the best thing he’s done in years.
In terms of TV the Collection doesn’t include a lot of Anime, so I nominate FLCL. A six episode mini-series that redefines post-modernism. It is a coming of age story about a young boy in a nondescript small Japanese town where “nothing ever interesting happens.” Things change when he literally crashes into a strange older woman. It is a fast-paced, colorful and frenetic story that is at the same time solemn, calm and contemplative like an Ozu picture. Oh yeh, it also includes GIANT FIGHTING ROBOTS.
I first saw this series on adult swim. I was not prepared for it in any way, I had no idea what I was watching and it was like nothing I’ve ever seen in my life.
And for this Fourth of July it would be a neat idea if the Criterion Collection or Showtime themselves put out a special Bill of Rights edition of Penn & Teller’s: Bullshit!. With each episode corresponding to one of the ten amendments to the United States Bill of Rights.
I – Obscenity
II – Gun Control
III – War on Drugs
IV – Big Brother
V – Reparations
VI – Death Penalty
VII – Endangered Species
VIII – 12-step
IX – Mount Rushmore
X – Handicap Parking
(just a stray idea I had)
Tool definitely has some insane videos. I’m huge fan of Alex Grey myself, even got a few signed prints by him.
ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT
michel gondry made a lot of good music videos
Magnum P.I. and Walker Texas Ranger
An American Family (1971)
It’s a 12-part documentary that aired on PBS. Has anyone seen this?
The Work of Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris
The Wire & Mad Men! =)
For some reason, I can’t edit my post, so I will just add Futurama to this mix too! Wait, are there any animated features in the Criterion Collection?
Alot o' marQ

…the original British DVD television series the film was based on…not that i’ve seen it.
and although they don’t fit the threat, 100%, because they’re not feature length films, i’m suggesting them:
Richard Kern short films collection.
Barbet Shroeder’s “The Bukowski Tapes”. yup…
