Angelo Bombelli, you’re awesome.

Those are FINE films.

And There Will Be Blood is one of my favorites as well.

2001: A Space Odyssey is probably my favorite film.

I watch The Evil Dead and Eraserhead A LOT though.

Eraserhead should be in my top ten, though I don’t know which one to bump out in its place.

This assignment is too difficult. I find that films are constantly being added and subtracted depending on new material of seen and how much I’ve matured or grown as a film viewer. For so long I called AMERICAN BEAUTY my all-time favorite. But now I’m not even sure it still is in my top 10, possibly not even top 20. What I do find easier, and each year my friends will do this, is compile a list of our top 10 of the current year.

But to humor this thread, I will name 10 films that have been mainstays for me for several years (no particular order):

ANNIE HALL
RUSHMORE
2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY
THE 400 BLOWS
RAGING BULL
LA STRADA
BADLANDS
THE KING OF COMEDY
THE GENERAL
THE SEVENTH SEAL

Damn. I had to leave off others like:
THE BIG LEBOWSKI
BLADE RUNNER
THE DIVING BELL & THE BUTTERFLY
AMELIE
LOST IN TRANSLATION

Chris Kieslowski

Just 10 films is really difficult but I’ll give it a go. This list could change at any give time though. (In no order…)

Bertolucci – The Conformist
Kurosawa – Dersu Uzala
David Lynch – Blue Velvet
Bresson – Mouchette
Cassavetes – Opening Night
Bergman – Persona
Tarkovsky – Stalker
Teshigahara – Woman in the Dunes
Herzog – Aguirre, the Wrath of God
Antonioni – L’Avventura

I wanted Kieslowski’s Dekalog in there, but that is 10 films in itself :(

Filmy

1.Pulp Fiction
2.8 1/2
3.2001: A Space Odyssey
4.Godfather 1&2
5.Fight Club
6.American Beauty
7.Sanjuro/Yojimbo
8.Pather Panchali
9.Amelie
10.Shawashank Redemption

Day for Night, Contempt, Pierrot le Fou, Battle of Algiers, In the mood for love, Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, Company, Lives of others, zodiac missed the list by a fraction.

Its tough to do an improptu list but I guess thats what a favorite movie list is all about

as this is going to be my very first post here, i inevitably found the top 10 list and started writing titles down to expand my ever growing movie collection. another thing that intrigues me is that everyone gets worked up over what the “top 10” should include. i’ve always only ever considered my top 10 as my favorite, can’t miss, movie experiences, or simply, the movies that mean the most to me. so here’s my list and hopefully, i’ll get to know some of you fellow cinephiles all the better.

10.Miller’s Crossing
9.There Will Be Blood
8.The Last Picture Show
7.Wild Strawberries
6.Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
5.Rear Window
4.The Bicycle Thief
3.Citizen Kane
2.2001: A Space Odyessy
and this should never be left out of anyone’s list ever
1.The Godfather 1+2(i personally prefer 1 to 2, but you have to include both, good thread topic though)

davecito !

I don’t have a set top anything, so I’ll go with the ‘first thought best thought’ method:

Sansho The Bailiff
L’Avventura
Floating Weeds
Mysterious Object At Noon
Cleo From 5 To 7
Godfather 2
Throne Of Blood
Aparajito
Harakiri
Yi Yi

These all mean a lot to me – I’m always very impressed by the complexity of what is technically achieved in these films, and I also connect to the stories in many ways.

Dr Strangelove, The Big Heat, Charulata, Rashomon, Breathless, Being There, Five Easy Pieces, Wild Strawberries, after life, Death By Hanging are all films that – on some other day – might make a top ten

Persona – Ingmar Bergman
There Will Bel Blood – PT Anderson

Well, I typed a brilliant response…and when I hit the POST button, I realized I had totally lost my signal and it all went bye bye.

Rest assured, you would have been amazed. sigh

I’d do it all over again if I hadn’t spent 30 minutes scouring my DVD collection to make up a great list…

Sorry, I cannot give only ten. It would be an injustice. Therefore, I’m going to give my top forty ranks of the films I’ve given scores of “100” and the occasional “99” to on Criticker.com.
