I don’t believe a perfect film ever will be made, or even can be.
Perfection means that literally every frame of a film is as good as it could possibly be.
Every line, every camera movement, every movement an actor makes needs to be exactly right.
It needs to be of its time but still timeless. It needs to be able to connect with you emotionally and be enjoyable. And there are so many more thin lines to walk.

Plus, I generally feel that the perfect film should be universally lovable. For example a movie like Goodfellas, which I consider the best ever as of today, is perhaps to violent and to masculine to appeal to everyone.

Having said that, while I don’t believe it’s perfect, perhaps the closest any movie has gotten to being perfect is The Third Man.

If there had to be one film for a dictionary entry, I say let it be North by Northwest.
