When is Criterion going to give Brazil a Blu Ray Treatment?

Redrum4

Seriously, why doesn’t Criterion release Brazil in Blu Ray? It’s the best possible candidate. It’s probably one of their best sellers,, one of the best movies, and it could use a high def treatment. Why Bottle Rocket, and not Brazil?

The world is absurd, Nathan.

Tell me about it Law. First this, and then I find out Tiger Woods is getting as much ass as Wilt Chamberlain.

What is the world coming to?

Brazil on Blu-Ray has my vote. Where can I pre-order?

Perhaps there’s a problem with their paperwork. Didn’t file the correct work order request form signed in triplicate, or somesuch.

lol @ Sunday

I would like a Blu-ray, but honestly the film has had plenty of Criterion releases already, and the DVD transfer is really quite good, so I can do without it. At least for a while longer.

I just don’t see the big deal about blu ray. Blu ray can make and movie from 2000 look crisper but why is there gonna be a seven samurai in blu ray? what’s next fritz lang’s metropolis? It just seems like a lot of money

I’ve got the DVD from Netflix on my shelf right now. Kind of ashamed to say I’ve never seen the film. Popped it in and watched the first 15 minutes or so, and wasn’t really connecting with it well, but it wasn’t even anamorphic, so there was windowboxing, and the image looked a little drab.

I think I actually might send it back to Netflix and wait for the (hopefully soon) Blu-ray. I feel like if I’ve waited this long, I can wait a little while longer. I think the film deserves to at least be seen in the best possible way.

Which DVD did you have? My Criterion single-disc release is anamorphic.

It just might happen since 2010 marks the 25th anniversary of BRAZIL. So why not?

I have the three-disc Criterion edition of Brazil. It’s the non-anamorphic one. The transfer isn’t great and while I would love to see a new HD transfer of it, there is little you can do to improve on that DVD set. That is an amazing release. If releasing it to Blu Ray means possibly gaining an even bigger audience then they need to do it.

I too would love to see this on Blu-Ray. I have the original, non-anamorphic box set, and the resolution boost alone would be a godsend, much less any additional restoration.

This is one of my all time favorites. It would be shame if it will not see a blu ray release this year!

You do realise that all 35mm movies, no matter how old, have FOUR TIMES the resolution of Blu-Ray, don’t you? Obviously not…as you seem to be another misinformed person thinking only movies made in the era of HD can benefit. 35mm films have to be projected across HUGE cinema screens measured in feet…not inches. The HD image has been sat latent in all these old movies, waiting for screen technology to catch up with it. As it is 4x the resolution of Blu-Ray, the old film stocks will not only serve this generation of HD home video, but whatever comes next. Try watching the Blade Runner or Alien on Blu-Ray….I think you just might realise what a silly statement you made.
