since i’ve been active on this site i’m more excited about films than ever! i never knew there was so much great stuff out there i haven’t seen yet! i hope i never reach this point of film exhaustion u guys are talking about. this is a golden age for cinephiles as we have access to stuff from all over the world and covering the entire history of films! i think i enjoy modern hollywood films less and less but that’s because they suck more and more but that’s been the case for some years. also i couldn’t stand the artist and i am a huge fan of silent films. and i am well over 25 xD
If I do enjoy films less now than before it’s because the more films you’ve seen, the harder it is for a film to surprise you.
Also I’ve found since I’ve been working full time I’m often too mentally fatigued to enjoy something heavily intellectual and fall back on ‘comfort foods’, such as marathoning long running scifi TV series.
When I was in college and when I had a dull repetitive job, it was much easier to be in the mood for hours upon hours of long tracking shots of cows walking bleakly across farmland.

Honestly when I was in college I was more interested in going dancing and drinking and kissing ‘n’ stuff….
Maybe I still am. ;)
(RGrimes, 44 is the new 16, but better)
I’m actually way more interested on dancing & drinking now than I was in college. ;)
im 33 and the first few films i actually remember seeing were:
thelma and louise
godfather part III
my mother also took me to see the wizard of oz on 16mm print when it was doing the 50th anniversary around the US (i think). im pretty sure i was the oldest kid there being 10.
i remember seeing ET in the theater but it was so packed that my dad and i had to sit on the floor because people wouldnt move over. true story.
I rarely start threads, Tommy. Anyway, I don’t have to since Jazz starts them all, lol.
And most of my long-term friends on this site are over 25, though I don’t discriminate.
I know you don’t that why I don’t really know how I got confused. I must’ve read a comment by you somewhere else and just got confused. I just can’t get you off my mind. teehee.
I love you, too. Kisses.
Yay for those around the corner 30’s!
I’ll be thirty in December!
hello dirty 30’s
80 in a couple of weeks. But then younger than Godard so how bad could that be. .
I’m 29 brother. Did i mention that I am a pure genius?

I haven’t been here much for a few months but I am happy to see that most of the good oldies are still here.

“i remember seeing ET in the theater but it was so packed that my dad and i had to sit on the floor because people wouldnt move over. true story.”
The same exact thing happened to me and my dad but at a different movie.
I’m over 25, old enough to have seen APOCALYPSE NOW and BLADE RUNNER and RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK in their first release, sometimes on opening day.
I am over 50 and I enjoy the Internet and I enjoy movies even more. The over 50 crowd I am sure is well represented here. Just a little more sedate perhaps.
Time for the younger Mubians to take this thread over!
I saw Toy Story on its first release! :P Three times!

I think I may enjoy films less because of my critical nature which seems to get more picky as I get older….I think the more films we see the less impressed we become? Maybe? I’m not sure….maybe there is such a thing as film fatigue?
I think we do become harder to please as we get older, partly because we’ve seen a lot of films—and many of the Hollywood films are pretty similar, using similar storylines, tropes, etc. My hypothesis is that everyone has a “saturation point”—which is a certain number of films. For example, my saturation point for action films might be a hundred films. Once I’ve seen a hundred action films, every action film after than point isn’t so interesting. (I’m sure our experience isn’t as precise as I’m describing.)
This hypothesis might also explain the reason I see mostly elderly people when I see arthouse films in the theater.

Hey, that’s cool! Good to have you on the site. And happy birthday! Any words of wisdom?
@Roaster
Have you been here for a long time? I don’t think I’ve seen you post much. Anyway, it’s nice to know that there are people older than me. :)

Are you The Tin Man?
haha I thought you said thin man I like William Powell. No just your average 120 year old
just about 6 months short of 50 and still loving this place after 3 years of participating.
@Jazzaloha
You’re right. I don’t post much but I am here somewhat frequently. I’ve been on Mubi for over a year; 13 months to be exact.
@Roaster
Well, I hope you post more often. We need more participation from the over 25 crowd.
I really can’t tell the difference. Some of the people who are apart of the older crowd write as though they’re children and some of the younger ones seem to be much older than I think. So really it doesn’t matter, it all evens out.

//RGrimes — we’re the same age. Dammit, we’re NOT dinosaurs. Just hitting our stride.//
I’m going with that. 44 is the new 24 or something or other….right?
@Jazz:
//You’re post resonated with me because I’m 43 (there you go, Captain :), and I find it harder and harder to find films I enjoy. Your post implies that your critical approach to films sapped your enjoyment of movies. Is that correct? Personally, I don’t think that’s the reason I’m enjoying films less and less, but I’m open to hearing your thoughts and insights that you have gained over the years//
