Have you read the DVD Beaver reviews ?
I have the UK version which I got cheaper than the Criterion version and it includes the shorts and the documentaries and I think it looks better. Interesting that the file size is like 50% larger in the UK version. It works on my American blu ray player without a hitch.
The commentary on the Criterion version is among the worst things I’ve ever attempted to listen to in my life, and it’s not on the UK version. I would have paid to have it left off. Hopefully Artificial Eye releases L’avventura on blu ray without the horrifying Criterion commentary track.
The transfers are very similar but I would go with the Criterion edition. It comes with a nice, thick book with some interviews with the director and lots of other good stuff. Very informative material!
What’s wrong with the l’avventura commentary. I’ve never listened to it. The Contempt Criterion commentary is pretty bad too. The guy sounds like a robot.
Anyhow, a Criterion L’Avventura blu ray seems overdue in its own right.
I have the Criterion DVD version of Veronique, so I’m going with the cheaper Artificial Eye release. I figure it saves money and gets me more supplements. If I hadn’t purchased the DVD already, I would go with Criterion’s Blu.

Should I buy the Criterion or the UK release, which is region zero? I’m assuming the UK release works on US blu ray players, since it’s region zero. Can someone vouch for one or the other? Thank you.
