I love the picture trend I started in here. It’s amazing.

I also highly recommend Ugetsu & Hiroshima Mon Amour.

BRIEF ENCOUNTER is available on blu-ray in the UK and have to recommend that edition over the standard DVD. But Criterion’s Eclipse set Three Films by Hiroshi Teshigahara is a must buy:) I also highly recommend the Nagisa Oshima set too! Then again, I’m a fan of strange romance…

@JASON – For romantic films, you can’t go wrong with the Preston Sturges films, you can’t go wrong also with “Summertime” or “My Man Godfrey”.

But with that being said, You don’t need to go for the Criterion Sturges and purchase the Preston Sturges box set. More films and for a better value.

But it all comes down to what your in the mood for. “Charade” is coming out on Blu-ray and “The Double Life of Veronique” is being offered by Artificial Eye (no-region) via Amazon UK for like $10 I believe.

But if this is for building your Criterion Collection….personally I would recommend the box sets such as “Eric Rohmer’s Six Moral Tales” or “4 By Agnes Varda” but if you had to choose one and something you both will like that has a little of the f’up relationship but also may put you both in the mood, then may be this:

Probably a Bergman you haven’t seen. If you want to wait a while a new Bergman is coming out sometime in the next couple months, so you could preorder that. Criterion blind buys are tricky, I usually do alot of research before I buy a criterion I haven’t seen, so I deffinitely recommened doing some research. Has anyone said IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE?
